Thank goodness for converted Quarterbacks. Blechen had Sunseri's number right from the start of that play. Brian knew exactly what Sunseri was going to do.

He's the Hero of the game for Utah.

Not to say that Blechen didn't make a good play by being in good position, but the Pitt quarterback threw it right into his arms.

Utah-D came to play...and in the end saved/won the game for Utah.
Utah needs to cut down on turn-overs and penalties before next game.
First game...a win against top-25 team...it's still good to be a Utes!!!

I disagree ... watch the play over again in slow motion.

Blechen didn't just guess or happen to be in the right place at the right time, he knew what Sunseri was attempting to do. That's partly instinct but more than likely due to Blechen's experience as a high school quarterback. Whatever the case may be, it paid off big time for Utes in this game.

UTAH MAN AM I

Great performance by the defense last night. Time and again the offense and special teams put them in bad situations, and they got the job done, holding Pitt to field goals and getting stops. One big play over the middle was the only breakdown, but overall stellar effort. I am thrilled to see this D play the way they did, especially considering they had a few question marks. Well done!

What was great abou this interception was the fact that as a true freshmen, he could tell that he was going to be able to make a play on the ball, and not simply defend the pass and bat it down. He broke, had his head up and made it look easy, two steps in-bounds, and the rest was history.

Even vets overplay the ball, or opt 1st to defend even an opportunity exists to intercept. It was great to see Brian get it.

He also played well throughout the game defending and on run plays. He had a couple hard tackles.

All of this will give him confidence, but it will also raise expectations. He might get more man on man assignments, and against a better throwing QB, it wont be as easy.

Good Luck Brian. Heres one ute who believes you will be the real deal. Cant wait for next week.

Go Utes!

"Bad situations" is right! Could not believe the holes the defense was put in. These are things that can be cleaned up though. I'm sure Shaky got an ear full!

The defense is as good as they have ever been and this team will contend for all the marbles if the offense can produce 30 points a game.

All story lines aside, Utah's Defensive line is deep, talented and we will win a lot of games this year.

If Lewis and a big O-line for Pitt that loves to run the ball 40 times per game can't have any success, how well are teams like UNLV, SDSU and other weak teams going to do?

It might take a couple more games for everyone to be on the same page, but this could end up being the best Utah defense in the history of the program. A defense that is led by about 8-10 men on the line that can all contribute in a big way!

Big sigh of relief concerning the defense. LB's looked fairly good and with JJ coming back I might dare say could be a strength.

It really takes a set of onions to play CB for the Utes- man converage is not for the meek. I'm guessing Burtons NFL stock shot through the roof last night....14 NFL team scouts were at the RES last night.

HEY ALL YOU 5 STAR CB PROSPECT RECRUITS....come play at Utah and get NFL style skills...its been proven time and time again.

As a Ute fan, I was a little nervous going into last night's game, but they made it pretty easy to be REALLY PROUD of their effort!!! I am really looking forward to this season!

rattler-if you watch the replay Blechin was eying tino throughout the play keeping in position and then broke on the ball as it was thrown. It was a great play by the freshman. I'm happy about the defense. Offensively I saw no major problems that can't be fixed with just a little bit more focus in the game. Wynn's thumb but a sprain in the first half of the game on his throwing hand and he finishes the game shows his toughness. It will be an asset later on. Very exciting to be a Ute.
