Take all the shots you want! When have you ever given "constructive criticism" though? Really funny coming from you.
You never cross any lines... wink wink

So isn't "intentially misunderstanding" the same as understanding? It wasn't that the slogan was bad anyway, it was just how it all panned out that made it hilarious. Will always be fun revisit too. Thanks
At least utahcountyute was right about one thing. Bronco is starting Nelson to try and keep some of the pressure off Heaps but based on this article being written it doesn't seem like that is working.
At least Jeff Call didn't write a stupid article criticizing the 2 QB system when the only reason they are going to play 2 QBs is to keep some of the pressure off Heaps and see which of the two perform better on the field in a real game. It is not a long term plan.
Why can't the Utes stick to commenting about their victory over Pitt? Or at least comment about Heaps?
BCS blah blah blah. Which fan group is the one that can't live in the present?
Even though the present and future for both schools is looking pretty great.

No, intentionally misunderstanding is not the same as understanding. It is misunderstanding on purpose. If you think it's a double negative.... well... I guess you should have got your education somewhere other than the "research institution" on the hill. If I had said "not misunderstanding" then you would be right... but your not.
But... I guess your sad incomprehension of the english language explains why the muse thinks it is such a clever slogan. BTW - "sad incomprehension" does not mean that you comprehend.
You know - if 11-2 seasons make a t-shirt slogan hilarious then I will take them. The point is "the quest" was not a bad slogan until you twisted it's meaning "Envy and fear" is a slam against the Utes by their own fans.
Thats OK. You guys are still new to the big stage. Stay close and we will help you through the tough times :)

The Quest was simply a goal, the highest goal, but a realistic goal.
After finishing in the Top 15, with 11-2, undefeated conference championships two years in a row, it's not a stretch to set a goal of having an undefeated season and possibily having a shot at another National Championship.
It's laughable how juvenile Utah fans belittle the Quest, when BYU's 10-3, Top 25, 2008 season is still better than all but 4 seasons in Utah's history.
"Envy the Past, Fear the Future"
I guess that depends on what we call "past". The Yankees have a past, Notre Dame has a past, the Celtics have a past. If there is even a portion of your current student body who was there when your great "past" started (2004), that probably doesn't count on quite the same level.
As for "fear the future", I'd be a little nervous too if my future Novembers consist of trips to Pullman, WA and Boulder, CO.
BYU fans are FUNNY!!! Been to a BCS game lately? Hey the Cubs were on top of the baseball world once in 1908!!! Utah got into a great conference and You didn't! So you are an independent? Sorry no one wanted you? Keep 1984 alive! under that old system the Utes would have been champs 2 years ago, after they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl! The last time Alabama lost! That was in a BCS game! Those are fun! Good luck getting into one?
Read the positive comments by classy Cougar fans after the U's thrilling win over Pitt. Compare them with the few negative and immature comments by the classless Ute wannabe's on this blog and be glad you're a Cougar. It's so much better to be postive and supportive of good teams!

As opposed to future Novembers anywhere in Idaho and anywhere in New Mexico? LOL.
Thanks for all the explanations on the "Quest" as well. I think finishing #2 to Florida and 13-0, undefeated, PERFECT, the same year you all had your amazing run of 11-2 (not perfect) is the reason it is a bit funny.
Relax though, you still have this year.
Actually last year was your real opportunity to take it to the next level of greatness. But, there was that major choke at home against FSU. Ouch!
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
There is an important difference between "Envy the Past, Fear the Future" slogan and the "Quest for Perfection" slogan.
"Envy and Fear" was created by the MUSS and is the slogan for the MUSS. Not the slogan for the Utah football team. The football team has its own slogan in the lockr room, which has not and will not necessarily be made public.
On the other hand, "Quest for Perfection" WAS the slogan for the actual football team. Huge difference.
Both slogan are funny and a bit stupid, the difference being that "Envy and Fear" is the slogan for the (sometimes over the top) MUSS and "Quest for Perfection" was the slogan for the actual (and sometimes over the top) football coaches and players. Take that difference for whatever it is worth.
le prof- you are right, we should show some class. I will say this- Bronco is a very good coach! And I think Heaps will be a star! But it's so fun to cheer against them!!!! That's what makes a great rival!
It is funny reading posts from Ute "fans" trying to explain the slogan. If it neds that much explanation mm82 then it is a lousy slogan. It really makes no difference if it is the muse that came up with it or the team. Are you saying that the muse fears the future of Utah football?
But you keep on spinning in the wind.
Really?
Does this article kind-of disrespect Riley? It is like Tebow and Orton in Denver...guess what? Orton has stepped up. But really Jake Heaps hasn't even set foot in a D-1 game yet. He may be the most amazing QB but don't destroy his chances with hype. You can count on Jake Locker bringing his A-game tomorrow.
One last thought: Is Bronco protecting heaps from the somewhat angry response from Husky fans?
I'm a dyed in the wool Husky fan and have watched Jake Heaps during his HS career. Great kid & no anger here. Most of us get why he opted for BYU. Wish him luck every day but tomorrow.
Funny title, "BYU football: Jake Heaps and Jake Locker will square off on Saturday"..... FINALLY, like this has been YEARS in the making. Lets see, Jake Locker: 28 games, 36 TDs, 26 INT's, 5374 Yds so far...... Jake Heaps:........ crickets.........
Sounds exciting, full of drama, comedy, suspense, thrills, the feel good hit of the summer. But I already seen The Two Jakes and it wasn't as good as Chinatown.
Prediction: awww.... this is tough, the spread has dropped down to 2.5, even 1.5 which basically makes it's a toss up. BYU wins 30-29
Parting prediction: VT wins 26-24
to the ute fans that feel it is so important to point out your two undefeated seasons, yea that is pretty good. I only have one reply, Sep 23, 2007: Utah 0 UNLV 27, straight off U of U website. HaHaHaHaHaHa.
I only have one thing to say, it is 'MUSS' not 'muse', GET IT STRAIGHT!!
