Thank you Senator Hatch.
thanks for your years of service, orrin. have a happy retirement starting in 2013.
Oh, was there a ground zero in Belmont?
the muslims have every right to erect their monument to the perps of 9/11 near the site, but if their goal is truly understanding and improved relations, they would move it.
There are already over 100 mosques in NYC and at least 4 in Manhattan. No one can reasonably argue that opposition to the 9/11 perp monument in THIS location is evidence of efforts to stop muslims from practicing their religion or building sites where they can worship.
I completely agree with you Senator. I don't like the Mosque being built so near the WTC but they have a right to practice their religion, just as I have the right to practice mine and they have a right to build on their own property.
I have been in, and worked on churches/religious buildings for many religions, and know many people from different faiths.
"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."
The last I knew, that includes New York. Why blame 1.5 billion people for the actions of a few?
I said it before and I will say it again. If they want to build a mosque right at ground Zero where the towers once stood, let them. It is their right.
At the same time, watch who leads the mosque and where its funding comes from.
What they want to do is in poor taste and judgement, but it is their right.

I agree with Samantha and Senator Hatch.
If you have read some of my previous posts', you will know that is not typically the case with the good senator.
Typical Republican response. Xenophobic (look it up). Pharisaical. Pandering for votes among the semi-educated fear/hate crowd. What is wrong with Orrin Hatch and this Republican Party that can't move without hitting someone they hate?
Thank You Senator Hatch for defending the Constitution of the Untied States of America....
...and following the LDS 11th Article of Faith.
I'm so sad to watch so many self-professed "Saints" who neither love, follow or obey their God or their Country.
Witness the fall of the Latter-Day Nephites.
RE: RedShirt
We know where the funding comes from. It is coming from the a Saudi who also owns the 2nd largest number of shares in Fox News.
Funny how Fox News doesn't want to reveal that fact in their "investigation".

What most people don't understand about Islam is that it is not or never has been a religion of peace,
===============
You sir, are suffering from an accute case of Islamaphobia.
I shall pray for your extreme ignorance.

It's funny 'cause it's true!
Lost in DC: "the 9/11 perp monument..."
Totally bogus, but I'm sure it's a fun label for you to play with.
Tell us, who is "in charge" of Islam?
For that matter, who is "in charge" of Christianity or Hinduism?
Do you know the difference between Suffi and Wahhabi? Sunni and Shia?
Try being a little less careless with your labels and a little more careful with your understanding of other religions.
To "Moderate | 9:04 a.m." according to Reuters, the funding may come partially from NY City.
According to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the guy who is heading up the group building it, he won't disclose who the contributors are. So, how do you know who has contributed to it? The only Fox News tie in comes from Jon Stewart. Then, if you actually read what Jon Stewart said, the Imam has been funded in the past by the #2 shareholder of Fox. So far, we don't actually know who is funding the mosque. Stewart was advocating guilt by association, without any actual proof.
So, here is your challenge, provide a list of who is actually funding the mosque. If you can do that, you would do something that no media outlet has done.

Pray for your own ignorance, you elitist think you know about every subject that comes up, and than you label someone who you don't agree with you, I'm just stating facts, get over yourself!

A fact is something you can prove.
Give, date, time, location, etc.
A provable, tangable thing that many, many people can agree upon.
Your claim is that your OPINION of someone else's possible OPINION.
As such, you have just supported your ignorance. By claiming your opinion of someone else...
is a fact.
Jon Steward was using Fox News as Jon does many times has a rich source of rumor. He was illustrating that he could use the same methodology Glenn Beck uses to prove Fox News was really connected to Islam because its true that the largest share hold next to Murdoch is a Muslim.
Jon Steward prove that Fox News "was advocating guilt by association, without any actual proof."
Mr. Johansen,
Those who preach that Islam is an inherently violent religion use the same tactics (and are often the same people) who preach that all Mormons are inherently violent because of the concept of "blood atonement" that supposedly lead to Mountain Meadows.
Do you have any Muslim friends?

==================
Excuse me,
I'm not an elitist (is that supposed to the new dirty word de jour, like you've done with Liberal?)
I just happen to have many Muslim friends.
I've read the Qur'an.
I've read what my LDS Church leaders have said about the Prophet Muhammad and the goodness of his followers as they try to obey,
I've attended their worship services,
and I've humbly knelt with them in prayer (Salah) to our one true God.
It's called - doing what I can NOT to be ignorant, having an open mind and trying to understand others.
It was something I read in the Bible and learned in Sunday School and Primary -
I'm Trying to be like Jesus,
Do as I'm doing,
Follow Follow me.
Was Jesus an elitist?
John A Johanson | 10:08 a.m LDS Liberal is an rocket engineer. Only about two percent of kids today will have the education to get into an engineering program.
I find it hard to believe he's Mormon. :-)
As a kid, I learned not to whine. If, I wanted to understand what people were saying, I had better educate myself enough to carry on an intelligent conversation with them.
I want to know the facts and not just have someone give me the facts they want me to know.
I worked in engineering and engineers are fact driven. This rubbed off on me.
When you tell me something I test it to see if its holds up. What a feel about you will be based on your merits. If, I catch you lying to me, you will have no credibility.
This is why I unplugged Fox News and talk radio. I have taken many classes in government and history. Not watching the boob tube I read.
The ignorance of many Americans is an national disgrace. I go to art museums, historical places, and other see mud wrestling as a cultural event of note.
Education, restoring honor to America.
This kind of religious bigotry is nothing new. Just as Muslims are a convenient target today, Jews were vilified in the past. During the Black Plague, Jews were accused of poisoning water supplies. In the early 20th century, the forces of religious division in America targeted Jews. Harvard scholar Diana Eck writes, "In the 1930s and early 1940s, hate organizations grew and conspiracy theories about Jewish influence spread like wildfire." In 1939, Father Charles Coughlin's Christian Front filled Madison Square Garden with 20,000 people at a vitriolic anti-Semitic event complete with banners that read: "Stop Jewish Domination of America." And as recently at the 19th century, Jews were actually prohibited from building synagogues in New York City. Today, the forces of religious division demonize Muslims. I guess nothing ever really changes.
