Way to go, Johnny Boy!

Hang in there and don't let the nay-sayers get you down. I know you've got what it takes to start, and win, in the NFL.

NO rookie quarterback could have won consistently with that first Miami team of yours.

CONGRATS!

Congratsulations! Your turn will come! Remember Steve Young sat in San Francisco for two years before Joe Montana was (traded or released). If you do your home work, your time will come. Way to go, John.

My error for misspelling congratulations in the above comment.

"NO rookie quarterback could have won consistently with that first Miami team of yours."

Your right, it was the Miami's fault, never Beck's... got it.

AFCoug

Good for Beck. A million a yr being a 3rd string QB. Just about every Cougar hater would take that.

flatlander

Not a bad deal, 1 million per year to be third string which means no injuries and the potential to be in the league for a dozen years

Re: Hedgehog

And I'm sure that you'll blame Alex Smith for his horrible rookie year before blaming his O-line, receivers, coaches, and so forth... Yeah right... You'll blame the player when it's a BYU grad, but it's the team's fault when it's a Utah grad and a No. 1 draft bust. Nice to keep it objective...

Thomas Jefferson

Best job in the NFL? Third string QB.

defibman

Where are all the Utes who said that there was "NO WAY" that the 'skins were going to sign him, or that he would be cut before the start of the season? Why not sign him to just a one year contract? I guess he is much better than what the Ute fans thought.

Way to go Beck. When you get your chance just make believe that the opposing team is the Utes and you will be successful.

IDC

Great news for Beck. Unga got a nice contract as well. Go Cougs.

Kyle loves BYU/Jazz

I don't blame Alex Smith for the 49ers being bad.

However being a #1 you expect to see some things no matter how bad the team is. Alex Smith might turn out to be a good quarterback but the 49ers were hoping he'd be more like a Matt Ryan, Matthew Stafford, Eli Manning kind of a #1 pick. Alex Smith isn't as good as you would hope for from a #1.

Good for Beck for getting some security. I'd love to make that kind of money and you never know with the NFL and injuries.

How sweet that Hedge Hog is so worried about John Beck that he couldn't resist reading an article about him!

Anybody that can stay in the NFL without being cut (cough...almost every Yewt QB) is a good goal. I'm a huge BYU fan and I don't think Beck has yet expressed the characteristics of a successful NFL QB, but I would take $1,000,000 a year to play a game I love and be on the sidelines for games.

CRM

And not to be overlooked, Max Hall, down here in Arizona, was signed by the Cardinals and depending what they do with Lienert may end up # 2 on the depth chart. To quote the AZ Republic sports page, "they love him". Guess that kind of balances all of the hate for him up there in youtville. Lest I appear negative, want you all to know I think Steve Smith has the potential to be another Steve Young.

Good for Beck! Great college QB, who I hope gets a legitimate chance to do something good in the NFL! Re: CRM @ 10:51 "Max Hall, down here in Arizona, was signed by the Cardinals and depending what they do with Lienert may end up # 2 on the depth chart. To quote the AZ Republic sports page, "they love him". I hadn't head much about Hall, so that's good to know. Hopefully he makes the roster as well. Both great competitors. I'm a USC graduate and LOVED Lienert. In a word, he's simply been a BUST in the NFL. Go Cougs!

Veracity

And lets see Hedgehog, you signed a million dollar contract with who???...

wwookie

So. Cal Reader, Max Hall is still 4th on the depth chart. If they trade Leinart, then he would become 3rd string, but could battle Skelton for the back-up position.

I think Hall is looking better in the preseason than Skelton, however, going against 3rd and 4th string defenses doesnt tell you too much. One thing was for certain though, Max Hall was confident in the pocket. Thats something we didnt see in our beloved Alex Smith in his first year (probably because he had 2 second to get rid of the ball or get sacked).

Personally, I'd prefer that Max Hall not succeed. I don't like the players who lack integrity and character, but no one can truthfully say he hasn't shown he belongs in the league.
