Sell out Taiwan to the mainland rulers. It is easier than losing Los Angeles to nuclear attack which is what will happen if we don't back down. Taiwan is not worth that loss even if you don't like LA.

The Chinese would never attack the US with nuclear weapons over Taiwan. If they did, they would lose everything they hold dear, China would end up not knowing which way is up (or down).

China isn't saddams' Iraq, or Mr. Uglydinnerjacket's Iran. It even has a lot more heft than north korea. We're going to have to go about this differently. We need china, and they need us. Hong Kong didn't disappear; neither will Taiwan. We should probably think about this situation a lot. We might be able to melt a lot of what china holds dear. But they're financing a lot of what we hold dear.

The writer doesn't take into account the economic power China now has given its continuing purchase of U.S. treasury bills. We have to hope that they continue to buy them, and do not sell off. Our human rights ideals are becoming subordinate to our economic realities. Just wait until China makes a move, and Obama's advisors will quickly remind us of this negative consequence to all the jobs saved by our escalating deficits.
