I'm very excited about BYU having a defense in which the defensive backfield may be their strength. Look for BYU to be much more agressive in attacking the other team's offense this year.

A ramped up defense will mean that the offense will be on the field for a longer time. That means more points for BYU and less points for their opponents. It is looking real good, this year. Let's keep our fingers crossed with regards to injuries. I am encouraged that we have 4 good to excellent QB's. Very often, a QB goes down to injury. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see all 4 get playin time, especially if there is an injury to a QB. Let's hope not, though.

BYU has always been able to score. The question was if they could score more than the opponent. Every year we hear about the team getting better and having more talent. I think this year at least, with the talent, it is true. Now if they can just get those kids some experience they might be able to make a mark!

Man coverage is all I ask for. If BYU were able to play man, all of the MWC will be shocked for at least 2 quarters.

All the new guys that are talented but have no experiance are going to get a crash course in Div 1 football next saturday. Remember all the questions going into the 2007 season. We had to replace alot of offense and lost very key members of the defense (Cameron Jensen, Aaron Wagner, Hala Paongo). The next 8 days will be agonizing to wait. Washington has a found alot of confidence but will come up short in Provo. Jordan Pendleton is going to rock Jake Locker's world. And look for Riley Nelson to prove alot of people wrong. He is going to reak havoc on that unskilled UWash defense. BYU wins 35-17

I just hope the secondary can learn, someday in my lifetime, to not play with their back to the ball. Good defensive backs know to watch the receiver's eyes and then look to and play the ball at the last moment. Any defense that plays as a cohesive unit communicates with each other and gives a "ball" call when the ball is in the air and coming to the receiver...that's when the DB turns to and plays the ball. At BYU, how many times have you seen the ball hit the DB in the back or hit his helmet? Please, please, please no more!!!

Our defense will be the best in the nation this year. Living righteously has its rewards.

The Washington game and the Air Force game will go a long way in determining how well this team will do this year. If the defense can step up and the Y wins both of those games it would be a great season. That would give them some momentum going into the FSU game. Take one game at a time and go get a W next Saturday vs the Huskies. A win over the Huskies should move them into the top 25.

Ok ok....

Maybe they're improving, but saying that they have "speed," you're not fooling anyone Jamie. This is tds we're talking about remember?

Isn't Washington in the PAC 10? We should have no problem at all beating them. After all, cougar fans love to talk about how bad the PAC 10 is and how bad Washington is.

BlueHusky

I think UW wins game 1. Locker is going to be really tough to stop, unless he just can't hit receivers. Question is Husky defense. Last year they gave up a lot of points. But this is a really big game for the Dawgs. They'll be up for it for sure.

BYU is too young to beat UW in game 1. I hope it's close but could be a whuppin' and BYU won't be doing the whuppin'.

But if BYU wins, that will send a message, because UW is going to be much better this year.

Oklahoma. Done! Washington. Soon to be Done! Locker can not throw well. He is athletic. Box him up and let the DB's cover their Pac 10 WR's. Game over. BYU in a laugher.. Got to get to Mesquite.

If the secondary really becomes the strength of byu's defense, then that is very very good news. BYU has a very atheletic and deep set of LBers that will rotate in throughout the games. And with Soto and Fuga up front on the DL, they should have a pretty strong front seven to go along with that secondary. Looking forward to seeing how they do against washington, I still have to see them in a game to be convinced, but its encouraging to hear they have done well in practice.

I would love it, if the corners become the strength of the defense and play man. I agree with the comments that it would shock the opponents. I am not prognosticating on the UW game. They are improved and BYU O is young. I hope for the best.

Go cougs!

Talk about the secondary is nice but I'm most interested in the Dline. We have a lot of size and depth up there. The key to doing well in the 3-4 is whether you can occupy the opposing team's o-line with 3 guys. If you can do that, your LBs are free to roam and your D outnumbers the O. We had trouble last year in our losses forcing the opposition to play 5 on 3 in the trenches. This let our lbs get blocked by linemen and put a lot of pressure on them to get off those blocks. I expect So'oto, Manumaleuna and Fuga to be game changers that won't get love from the casual fans. The entire 2 deep on the D line will be difference makers.

Fiddler

Chris, beat us in something then come talk.

Oner Code

OH no...here come the dreaded:
PI penalties for not looking back for the ball.
Kicking the ball out of bounds after scoring.
Personal Fouls for hitting someone out of bounds.
Carrying the ball like a loaf of bread...and fumbling.

I wish it weren't true, but that's been the standard of shooting ourselves in the foot each year.

Cougar Claws

I know, right Chris B? It's like saying Utah has intelligence.

Fiddler,

How about the race to a bcs game?

Done.

How about the race to a second bcs game?

Done.

How about a race to a bcs win?

Done.

How about a race to two bcs wins?

Done

How about a race to be invited to play with the big boys?

Done

Shall I keep going?

Kramer

Look out for Jordan Pendelton. He's been recovering from off season surgery, but should be ok by the Udub game. By the time he leaves BYU, I predict that he will be the best linebacker to ever play at BYU. He is an Animal and has a motor that never stops. Hopefully The rest of the Linebacking corps will follow his lead.
