Man, the emotions during this game. When we went up 3-1, i was celebrating thinking that we would be the first MLS team to win in Mexico. Then we give up a goal, and the nerves start coming. We concede another goal, and then I am bummed that we will only get the tie. Then we go down a goal, and I am depressed. Then we score, and I am happy that we have come back and will get at least a point, which was better than expected. Then we give up another goal, and I cannot help but laugh at the whole then. Then I become sad, then I become angry. Crazy night.
Come on RSL, lets get the points in Toronto Saturday, and push for the Supporters Shield.
Pathetic! How do you say choke in Spanish? RSL was up 2 goals with 15 minutes left and they give up 4 goals and lose. Unfortunately I watched this monumental collapse and I must say it was probably the most pathetic close to any game in any sport that I've seen in a long time.
I watched the game for free but I still feel RSL should give me a refund
So close...It's too bad we conceded possession for the last 15 minutes and couldn't clear the ball at critical points....When you go into bunker mode and let them shell you in those conditions...Good showing however...
Rauwshan McKenzie needs to never see the pitch again in an RSL uniform. While the whole team defensively was pretty pathetic, McKenzie stood out as the one giving up mistake after mistake. It was his deflection on one goal. Him getting beat to the near post on a run on another, and his attempt (seriously my six-year-old daughter could have done better) at a clearance straight to the feet of a Cruz Azul player that was the reason for one more. Not to mention both he and Borchers falling asleep on the first goal, and then he slips and nearly gives up another score only minutes later. Can RSL please get a loan deal for him to...oh, I don't know, ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!!! I must admit I have never seen a game like that in all my life. Let's regroup RSL and go get a win in Toronto. I really hope Olave gets healthy like yesterday.
Crazy game. It was a shame not to walk away with all three. Hopefully we'll be ready for Toronto and we can regroup an still lead the group in the CCL.
I think RSL learned a lesson. Never bunker against a Mexican team in their place. So many teams have tried before and failed.
I think RSL had to take a bit of their own medicine also. We always shine the last 15 minutes at Rio Tinto because the other team is exhausted from the altitude. It was like magic last night. The final 15 comes around and meltdown.
I am sure that McKenzie wishes he hadn't ticked two balls that Rimando probably gets. I don't blame him though, it is a team game and there are other things that other players could have done to keep us out of the situations we ended up in. Findley should have never been subbed in for example. In those weather conditions we didn't need Findleys speed we needed Espys ball control. Williams didn't seem to contribute much either after we subbed Morales out because Azul started playing hack-a- Morales.
I credit these guys for going for it. The announcers were talking about the lack of a crowd for the game. I wouldn't go to a game where the other team is going to field a B team that has the obvious mission of trying to play messy soccer and come out with a tie either.
If more MLS teams would do what RSL did last night and bring their A team and their A game I am sure more people would attend a CCL game.
I decided to watch this game, and almost became a fan, then they choked so bad!!! What a laugh!!!.
that match was beyond ridiculous. how can one of the top teams in MLS not hold a 2-goal lead in the last 15 minutes and end up giving up 4 goals?
mckenzie should've been subbed off after he took a knock earlier. he was clearly out of his league.
subbing off espi and javi completely changed the dynamic of the game. we lost momentum, couldn't keep possession, and let them bring the game at us. i don't think findley touched the ball more than half a dozen times after coming on.
what a weak disappointing effort by RSL. the worst thing about it is that it'll probably also cost us points at toronto this weekend...
I have to agree with three11stu on the emotions I felt during this game. Normally I would be really frustrated after blowing a lead like that, but I have to say I just watched with awe as 4 goals were scored in the closing minutes. I did curse McKenzie's name a few times, but we can't put the blame solely on him.
The way this game started I thought we were doomed. Johnson's goal is called off for being offsides while the replay showed him two steps onside. Then Cruz Azul scores a goal on a quick restart that should have been called back because the ball never stopped rolling.
But, then Fabi earned that PK and we leveled and then seemed to dominate the rest of the half.
I wish we hadn't switched to such a defensive shell late because like the prevent defense in passball it can blow up on you very quickly.
That game was a total disaster and again the mexican team manages to pull off a miracle. I was screaming with anger when we let them tie it 3-3 then they took the lead and i stopped watching. I hear my family cheering and Ok sweet at least we will remain on top of the group i go in to watch the last few seconds and RSL gives up another goal. I swear the MLS teams are cursed in mexico. Columbus gets a goal called back last night because the player didn't have his name on his jersey and Santos manages a miracle late goal. Then last night.. geese that was aweful..
Anyone else notice that the second Morales was taken out we had no possesion? I know we need to rest players but morales should be one of the few that is fit enough to stay in all game. Plus he seemed a lot more comfortable in the environment than williams. Beckerman was almost nonexistent and has been ever since his injury. Gonzales should have stayed in and grabavoy should have come in for beckerman. Johnson played well and hustled he had a legit goal called back so really he had 2.
RSL disapointed last night that was rough i hardly even want to think about it.
I agree MLS is cursed in Mexico. Cruz Azul deserved to lose the game. Yet, RSL gift wrapped the game and gave it to them. If RSL play bad the last 15 minutes they still win. They just couldn't play completely pathetic, which they did. Too bad. Historic win thrown away.
I agree with most here that it was the substitutions that were made that cost this game. Kreis just went through the motions with his substitutions and the field conditions warranted a little more thought as to who came out of the game. If Espy and Morales play the full 90 we win that game hands down.
That game was not for Findley, Beckerman did not show, great effort by Johnson, Javi, Sabo, Gonzo and Espy.
The team played well most of the game, sunked (appropriate)in the last few minutes. but will return tomorrow in Toronto.
Please Jason, leave Sabo, Espy, Gonzo and Javi all the 90 minutes, they deserve an opportunity for revenge! and we (the fans) need a victory too!
