No shame in moving to Big Sky or WCC. USU would be a powehouse like Montana. Would save a lot of money. Gary Anderson will use this year only to improve the resume. Getting darker in Logan.

Please Administration, Athletic Director, and all other staff working on this, stop trying to make the WAC better at our expense. Even a WAC with BYU is not as good as a MWC without BYU. This was our big opportunity to move forward, and instead, right now we're caught almost limping along trying to catch up to the train. We need to do whatever we can to work with the MWC to get them/plead with them to give us one more chance. So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, help us to join the MWC!! That is our BEST OPPORTUNITY!

I'am not done yet! I was one of the 1,500 die-hard Aggie fans that showed up for the Family Day slash Spring Scrimmage game at Romney Stadium. And as the article accurately indicates there was a dark cloud over the game and the dialog amoungst fans in the bleachers. It was tuff to watch all those young athletes playing hard for the fans and coaches but there was a definate undercurrent about the future of Aggie athletics and whether or not these kids made a good decision to play for the Aggies. All the talk centered around what could have been and the fear that Aggie football and basketball is going to die a very slow and painful death-which no one in the stands wanted to be a part of. There was talk of how fast the anticipation of a great football season has now degenerated into complete apathy and deep concern for the future of Aggie athletics and the quality of the university experience and campus life at USU with a sharp decline in community and fan support in both football and basketball. What a difference a few days and a few bad decisions make!!!!

Rock Of The Marne

As a former Aggie I applaud them for loyalty but in this dog eat dog world that has become college athletics (sad as it is) the Aggies need to look out for what is best for them. I would say if another chance to go to the MWC comes along take it as all the other teams (including BYU) are only looking out for themselves. Go Big Blue, but don't go to the Big Sky Conference as you are DIV I and should stay that way.

Utah'95

Hats off to you, Aggies.

Good luck in your athletic future.

Let's see if I can get posted by turning the rhetoric down using bad words about the two individuals who put the Aggies in this no-win position. Sorry! Here goes:

RE Kameron-Your assumtion is flawed. If the Aggies joined the Big Sky you can say goodbye to Gary Anderson, Stew Morril, and all their coaching staff. Community and alumni support would suffer and the product on the football field and basketball court would decline in a big way.

RE Bridges-Nice take. Nothing like "BEGGING" for something that was handed to the Aggies on a silver platter only a few days ago. Something that every Aggie fan has been praying for for 30 plus years. Souinds like certain individuals within USU's administration and athletic department my have made a monumentous mistake-just my opinion of course.

RE Rock Of The Marne-Yes it is a "dog-eat-dog" world and thanks for the dose of reality-finally!! The BYU, FSU and UNR dogs of the world are going to enjoy a great football future and have a good laugh at the Aggies in a few years. The Aggie dog goes to the pound begging!!!!!!!!!

Aggies,

I'm proud of you that you did the right thing in honoring an agreement. You represent Utah well. I'm really really hoping that your best days are still yet ahead.

Hellooo

This is the best opportunity USU has ever had. They need to provide strong leadership in the WAC, encourage the Y to play its non-football sports in the league and build the league as their own for the future. Every other school still in the league is the same. They can get to the required 8 teams in the next two years, and be much better off financially than joining the underpaid, over teamed non-AQ MWC. The three teams I would target are Wyoming, Colo. St, and Air Force. Natural rivals, close to the conference center-USU. This is a great time for Aggie sports. Make it happen Stan.

DiBo12

In my opinion...

I think Washington State and Montana should koin the WAC...Why not?

Here is Sub Zero Now Plain Zero

The Aggies need to call up the MWC and see if they can still get in. There is a small window of opportunity and the window is going to close very soon if it has not closed already. Who cares what BYU will do, they obviously do not care much for USU. Just call up the MWC and say you messed up and want back in.

sisucas

What's the difference between being the perennial bottom dweller in the WAC or filling that role in the MCW? I guess San Diego State might enjoy having one conference member it can beat. Utah State has proven for about a decade that they can't compete in D-I. Maybe their best be would be to join the big sky and actually win now and then.

slacker

why would you want the aggies to join the mwc? The tv deal is terrible, Why do you think BYU wanted to leave in the first place? I think Boise should change their mind The WAC should invite TCU. that would get the conference up to eight teams and suddenly the WAC looks like a better conference than the mwc, a conference with a bunch of wanna bes.

aggie bob

I think its funny that people assume that USU is not talking with the MWC. Everyone is on the phone with everyone else. As much as I hate to say it, after the stupid actions of fresno and nevada, the MWC would be the best place for the aggies.
However, everyone needs to realize that the MWC didnt properly invite us earlier in the week. As AD Scott Barnes said last night on sportsbeat, the MWC call to the aggies was an inquiry of interest. This sounds far from an invitation.

Cats

As a Cougar, I applaud USU for acting with honor. That's not something Fresno State or Nevada can claim. BYU is still working with USU and I hope that both schools can end up with something that will benefit them both.

silentobserver

Wasn't Boise State no names just 10 years ago. With the rightCoaches and Administration in place things can and will happen. But then, who will the insecure critics be able to turn to then? I disagree with Eborn, USU is not facing Dark days. There is more in place to succeed than ever before. Time will tell.

RE: Aggiefan74

RE: Cats

You are correct Cats the Aggies are working with BYU to try and get in the MWC. I also applaud my Ags for honoring their word, however at this point if there is no conference then amen we need to go.

As to your mind numbing comments Aggie Fan 74 you need to have a personal integrity check first. Are you the guy that runs up your credit card and then files? Do you always go back on your word on your contract. Do you not understand that four days before Fresno and Nevada stabbed fellow conference members in the back they had agreed to facilitate a plan that would bolster everyone's position. Additionally you must have zero understanding of TV contracts. Fresno and Nevada have indeed forced everyone's hand but at what cost? Well Aggie Fan 74 if you have heard of the Mountain Channel kudos to you, IF we survive the betrayal that is what we are confined to. The mountain channel! Do you know what that means, apparently not.

Fact is the WAC had it remained would have had a better TV deal than the freaking MWC, wakeup 74'!

AggieFan74

nehu: How many TV deals does the Big Sky have??? FSU and UNR made a deal to pay $5 million to leave the WAC. There gone. The $5 million will be paid. FSU, UNR and BYU will continue to play major Division I football in a respected athletic conference. USU, at best, will sink to the Big Sky or stay with a third-rate WAC with a bunch of Big Sky transplant teams. I hope you and all the other 1,500 fans will enjoy watching the Aggies play UC Davis in the home comming game in a couple of years!!! Come March we all hope and pray the Aggies get invited to the big dance with "quality wins" over Sac State, Cal Ploy, whomever..... Just who needs to wake up!!!!! But we can look back and say Scott Barns and Stan Albeacht had integrity and was loyal to a defunct athletic conference and three schools who couldn't care less about the well being of the Aggies!!!! Talk to me again in about five years when a 100 plus years of Aggie athletic si reduced to a club sport program.

Mortoon

The aggies will land on their feet! But don't get too excited about the mwc...it's not all that, unless the tv deal is dumped.

Superzero

The future for Aggie athletics lies in the hands of BYU. If BYU decides to stay in the MWC that would give the conference 11 teams and would need another member to make an even 12 and the conference would be split into two divisions with a championship game. USU would probably have a 2nd chance to accept the invite.

Osgrath

It's good to see quality and integrity get rewarded. Brian would be a good assistant in any program, and he is perfect for the Utes. Quality programs have quality coaches.
