we have comprehensive reform in the 1985 Comprehensive Immigration reform and enforcement Act.

Here again we have the Mexican government following through it’s 3 phase 15 year plan for an open borders policy that will allow the mexicans to move freely too and fro and will and whim.

And again those demanding amnesty and pardon for those who have and continue too arroggantly, purposely and at will violate our laws while calling us racist if we do not give into their demands while laughing and calling us “stupid Americans”.

And again, NO BODY is talking about the horrible financial fall —out imposed upon Our own impoverished American citizens eeking out a meager living on the bottom rungs of our society and culture, who are displaced, living in dire poverty often in broken seperated families as a result of low pay and under employment.

Where is the symathy for America’s poor?

The only problem with our immigration system is that these people thumb their nose at it. We have a system in place, it's been there for along time, and worked well, use it!

I don't think advocates for this states poor should be meddling in illegal immigration.

On the contrary, our state could fund more programs for this countries poor, if our tax dollars were not used to subsidize foreign citizens and governments. At $6000 per student, that's 6 million for every 1000 children.

If I am a poor citizen of this state, I would not want them to be speaking for me.

RichardB

I clicked it to soon.

Where were these advocates when Utah citizens were being denied food stamps, because they lived with other family members that were citizens, and they counted both incomes.

Those living with illegal immigrants, under the same circumstances could receive benefits, because the illegal workers income did not count.

This is just darn right laughable. Another case of lets kick the middle class while they are already down. We have lost jobs, good schools, homes, cars, safe neighborhoods, all in the name of politcian's and corporate owners that just keep taking, taking and taking from us who support this country. We have no more to give, it is gone. Keeping illegal policies in this state is just cause for further destruction of our economy.

Sounds like the Deseret News goes out every day to gather up the latest complaints from the same small group of radical left pro-amnesty, pro-illegal, pro-socialist folks under whatever compassionate group title they claim to be that day.

Maybe you can find some "Utahns united to eliminate poverty and crime" and find out what they think. (That would be us average hard working, tax paying legal citizens.)

The solution is for people to come to the U.S. following the legal process that is in place. To leave if you are not here legally, and to stop encouraging and aiding those who break our laws to come here and stay here. Then get the government to quit taking the money from people who work just to squander it on bureaucratic empires, and giving it to people who do not work. Private charity is to be admired and encouraged, but a free public dole simply enslaves people to the liberal welfare plantation.

By considering the "Economic impact" you must mean welfare, schooling the children of illegal aliens, food stamps, free medical, housing subsidies, crime, cleaning graffiti, stolen identities, illegal drugs, jail costs, in addition to police and gang task force costs. The economic impact was doing just fine until all the illegal aliens started moving in after Ronaldo Reagan gave 4 million illegal aliens amnesty. Now Obama wants to do the same thing but on a much larger scale. Great move for the illegals, economic suicide to the U. S. taxpayer.

What in Tucket?

I guess an open border policy seems to be the goal of many. The problem for Mexico and becoming a problem for us in the US is that in Mexico needs more property rights and free enterprise. Our president is anti business. Capitalism and only capitalism has rescued the world from degrading poverty, rampant disease and early death. Why chuck it out? It's our only hope. We need to reform social security, medicare, medicaid, reduce spending dramatically, eliminate about half our Federal jobs and regulations, and lower taxes. And no government unions.

I don't see where this group wanted to do anything with immigrants. Instead, they seem to be wanting to help illegals. Maybe they should realize that it is cheaper to help illegals in their home countries. Unless, of course, they want to use someone else's money to do their charity work. Sounds like maybe this is a worthless group after all.

Uncle Sam

75% of Utah supports this bill. Let's get it passed!

Quit meeting and wasting time and money over finding ways to squash a bill that has way too much support.

Those worried about the costs of deportation need not worry. When the bill passes, illegals will flock out of Utah faster than you can say "I could be illegal".

Get the bill passed, and quit writing articles about the small minority that just wants to whine all of the time!

van

Deporting 100 thousand people from Utah...how is that good for Utah? Sandstom has yet talked about the effects of removing thousands from our economy. Why? its because it would be the biggest blow to our economy that utah have ever seen. I think Sandrom should talk about the effects of mass deportation will have on the economy.
People thinking that politicions taking an inforcement only approach is looking out for Utahs best interest are getting fooled.
Utah should brace for what is about to happen. Utah will have thousands more houses on in foreclosure, thousands of more rentals on the market, millions and millions of buying power dollars will be taken away.
I wish politicions would tell the real truth.

TRUTH

I don't get it.......Cmon Dnews!

if you are illegal, you should not be getting ANY benefits..Period! I don't care if you have pink skin with purple polkadots.......no one who is in this country illegally is entitled to welfare they haven't paid for....if they are from Mexico, send them home to Mexico to get mexican benefits........

Proud to be American

Hey van, enjoy being the minority. Because the vast majority of Utahns are sick of illegals in our state.

I don't know where you got your 100,000 figure.... but for argument sake let's say that 100,000 illegals leave Utah. How does that HURT our economy? We don't need the extra poverty people trying to take from those Americans that really need the help right now.

Get the deportation buses going!

The Missing Link

Let me just say something here, just how many of these (today), both on a State and Federal level career politician's in Office, would do that too you, the common people also?. It's called money, greed, corruption, above the law, (ignore us common people unless they need your votes), career politician's who will take money from any special interest and say or do anything to keep his hold on power. It's secret government by the insiders, for the insiders only today. That's for BIG BUSINESS "ONLY" and their deep pocket's. Extracting the Mental Illness of corrupt Progressive Liberalism and corrupt GOP here. On both sides of the fence also. NO SIDE of these politicians were ever serious about getting corruption out of politics and would shout "LOUDLY" for TERM LIMITS!. Question is, then "WHY" do YOU KEEP ON re-electing them?. Just how many career politician's in Office keep you wrapped in foil in his refrigerator and in the dark and cold ?. Does Congress and Obama think we are that stupid?. DEPORT THESE ILLEGAL'S TODAY and stop talking about it. We don't want them here for YOUR ill gotten gain's.

The Politics of Listening

Utah loves illegal's, Union's, all for ill gotten gain's. All those unions need their pension funds bailed out so they can keep giving the Democratic party millions. You ever notice how Campaign Finance Reform never includes any limits on union giving. Wonder why? All those posts accuse the Republicans of bailing out Wall Street. But look who Wall Street is buying off, how many illegal's work for Tyson Foods?. The company is the world's second largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef, and pork only behind Brazilian JBS S.A., and annually exports the largest percentage of beef out of the United States. Tyson was charged with conspiracy to smuggle undocumented workers to work on its production lines, the company violated federal racketeering laws by conspiring with National Council of La Raza and League of United Latin American Countries not to question the employment applications of anyone with a Hispanic surname.

van

Give the illegals a pathway to citizenship. They work hard, they appreciate what they have, and if you would loose the hatred for these human beings you might see there is a better solution than just deporting them. Wow the folks in utah really have alot of hatred In them. why? Mormons broke US laws with polygomy.

Everyone should go hug an illegal. Treat them like you are taught in sunday school.

RichardB

The pathway to legal citizenship has always been there for them.

They chose the path they are on instead.

Third try screen name

I agree that reform needs to look far down the road. In 2007-2009 Gallup compiled international survey data that suggest 160 MILLION people from the third world want to live in the United States instead.
Cheap palne tickets, cell phones and the Internet make their wishes more of a reality each day.
Yes, we had better get it right this time, and lax enforcement and open borders are NOT the answer.

Third try screen name

Closer to home, Pew did a study in October and found that 36 million Mexicans want to live in the United States.
18 million admitted to the poll-taker that they would be willing to break the law to come here.
The pressure is real and our level of push-back to date is pathetic.
