I have 2 pets and both have insurance policies. My 12 yr old has a policy with VIP Insurance, I am not too fond of that company however he is too old to change. When I signed him up that asked if he had every been to a Vet, of course, I answered for checkups and one UTI. Ok, they tell me no coverage for Urinary Tract infections, the deductible is high and charge it on every visit. Slow payout and many things not covered.
At the recommendation of my Vet for a new pet, they suggested Trupanion Pet Ins. It is not a dollar for dollar plan like VPI, they expect you to be prepared to cover you pet for checkup and standard care. They have no payout limit and cover all accident and injury claims.
For all you naysayers, who think it is nuts for a person to have coverage on their pets, well, my husband and I blissfully have no kids, have a nice substantial private income and value our pets well being. I also make it a habit to contribute to my Vets Good Samaritan Fund to those who need help.
