Dismissed, huh? He coach couldn't get a job with the Seattle Seahawks? Coach at Kentucky? What is the world coming to when a coach gets fired for violations...

Imagine if BYU goes on probation as they attempt going Independent........

shut it down...it's over.

I hope they do a better job hiring this time. There are some great LDS volleyball coaches and I'm sure Patchell was just fine but hiring internally from a staff that had problems doesn't seem too bright.

BYU Cougars

Tommy boy is a little late on this one, sanctions came down last year. I don't know that it was patchell that started the problem (violations) but if he kept it going I'm glad he is gone. I hope they find a good coach to continue our great volleyball program.

do we have a volleyball team?

Is BYU attempting to go independent? I thought that was just talk.

Is there anything about BYU sports that you could at least post without clueless bias?

Like volleyball affects football in ANY way???

caleb in new york

men's volleyball was in its own hybrid conference and not in the MWC. I think a lot of the MWC schools didn't have men's volleyball. So BYU going on probation for men's volleyball has no effect on BYU going independent for football (WAC also doesn't have its own volleyball league and instead has teams that are part of BYU's hybrid volleyball conference)

hedgehog, shut what down? We're talking about volleyball, here. Volley...ball. BYU is going independent in football. Foot...ball. No allegations of violations/threat of sanctions there.

Ok, that was funny.

don't ask do "we" have a volleyball team, if you don't know, you're not "we."

In fact, USC, UCLA, and Stanford (except for last season) don't take too well to being pummelled by BYU. In the last 10 years, it has happened regularly and often. They don't like BYU. Someone is always calling foul against BYU volleyball.

Under the current sanctions, they lost .5 scholarship. Considering the team only has 4.5, that is pretty significant. BYU stresses that they strive to meet all NCAA violations, but if they have continued, the school had no choice but to fire the coach. Maybe Carl McGown may come back. Or perhaps Ryan Millar will retire from Team USA and return. Then there is the former Pepperdine and Hawaii coach who both offered to be BYU ASSISTANTS!!!! in the past. This is a bummer, but there are options.
