"The security seems to have helped his confidence. The struggles he exhibited early in camp last season are gone. In this camp, he's been one of BYU's steadiest performers so far."
Shown by yesterday's practice- 2 missed field goals, one blocked PAT, and left practice injured with a sprained ankle.
I'll believe it when I see it.
6 rushes from the quarterback....sounds like happy feet in the pocket.
3 comments and all of them by BEW's....they just will never go away....wonder why Mr. Hall said what he said???
Were you folks weened on a pickle? Such negativity! I hope your disposition changes when you look in the mirror!
I hope Payne and Stephenson have tremendous years. Good Luck!! Go Cougs!
I hope Payne does much better as well .... because he REALLY needs to! Loved the pictures. With tung in cheeck, Jordan Black better hope that hair of his grows back real soon before the school year starts (honor code violation)! Ha. Also, look at the size of Munns. I'm just guessing his playing time, if any, will be substantially limited. Might a change to TE be in order? He's huge! Go Cougs all the way. Looking forward to being in Provo for the 9/3 season opender!
To all the Payne detractors out there -
Name one *critical* FG or PAT attempt that Payne has missed in his career at BYU. No, he does not have great range, but he has always delivered when it really mattered. And it sounds as if he may have improved his range during the off-season - hitting two 50 yarders yesterday is a great sign he has improved his game.
Have to admit while payne has been here no critical FG's have been taken. BYU either blows up people or gets blown up.
Payne's decent on field goals, but we need Stephenson to do kick offs. I can't wait for Justin Sorensen to come back.
HERE! HERE! JHP. Sorensen is a grear kicker.
HERE! HERE! JHP. Sorensen is a great kicker!
Neither Payne or Stepenenson can keep the ball inbounds nor put it in the endzone with any consistancy.
Sorensen is a great kicker? Are you sure? If it is the same one that I saw play for Bingham, he kicked a couple of 50+ yard field goals in high school. That is better than most college kickers. Any team would be lucky to have that good of a kicker. Did he go on a mission and if so, when will he be back? Next year?
BYU has really benefited from Payne's consistency during the season, but what is going on this fall? I haven;t the stats but my guess is that he hasn't made a long field goal yet even missing a high percentage of those in the 35-39 yard range. The youngster certainly deserves to be taking Payne's place if he can't get things back to normal. There isn't a worst feeling in the mind of each offensive player than to move the length of the field, having the drive stall and then MISSING the FG. Gary Patterson has to have ripped out most of his hair after going for the FG what 5 or 6 times in the narrow loss to Utah, in 2008, and missing each and every time. Do you think Gary wished he could go back, and at least try to run one on from the 6 or the 4 yard line, to get the win?
