Isn't 245 lbs, which Levi Koskan weighs, still considered too light for the defensive line in college football?
You've got to start somewhere. Even while he's still a bit undersized, it will be a lot better than last season.
GA was hired to be a head coach which is a "full" time job last time I checked. He needs to focus on recruiting, fund raising, motivating a bunch of kids who may have a severe case of "underdog" syndrome, community and alumni support, developing winning/comptetitive game plans, the scheduling of future regional games to establish reasonably competitive rivalries, and just selling Aggie football on a local, state, regional and national basis. When I read articles about GA wanting to be a defensive coach just because that's his claim to past success-here's a memo to Coach A: that's yesterday's news and stop being a micromanager move it up a notch and just be a great head coach. Hire some aggressive young stud to coach the D-Line then hammer the guy if he doesn't get the job done!!!!
RE: AggieFan74
Coach Andersen has done all of things you've mentioned, once this year is past (if the line does well) he'll be able to easily recruit that line coach you are talking about.
I think most Aggie fans would agree Coach Andersen has done a great job of turning this team, and the expectations for that team, around.
Looking forward to seeing how it all plays out this year. The team needs to win enough games to prove the optimism is justified. If that happens this micro managing will have paid off; if not, then Coach Andersen better figure out what went wrong and correct it.
Re: AggieFan74
Personally, I like the hands-on approach. He has been doing all of that other stuff. At least, that's the impression I get from all the articles I've been reading. But I like that he's not going to sit back and hope that a problem gets better. He's going to get his hands dirty and work on the problem areas.
doers the video link work for anyone else? it takes me to a picture slide show.
Give the guy a break 74. Being the d-line coach is not a major responsibility. He is going to be working one-on-one with a handful of guys who badly need his expertise. Taking on a small role within the coaching system (ie. quarterbacks coach, line coach, wr coach, special teams) is pretty standard fair for head coaches. It gives head coaches a chance to develop a close relationship with a core group of players, which helps to develop leaders they can count on and motivate. A great coach understands that. Andersen is doing what he thinks is best for the team. Considering the fact that he is actually on the team instead sitting behind a computer screen blogging about his ideas like the rest of us, I think I'll trust his judgement.
