Comments about ‘High school football: Pleasant Grove has a new look this season’

Why is PG picked to finished fifth in their region here, but in the Dnews top 25 they are ranked #8? I agree with the coaches and Dnews prediction of fifth given everything the team lost and the depth in the region. What are the rankings based on if they don't correspond to team reviews?

To my knowledge the top 25 is done by 8 staff members at DN. The coaches have their straw poll and one writer does the other straw poll. Also I would not get to excited about pre-season rankings. Just do it on the field!

I thought PG was a tough team last year and put up a good fight, but for anyone to claim they were the team to beat to get to the state title last year is a bit ridiculous.
PG were the only ones who put that pressure on themselves and were the self-proclaimed best team in the history of the state, nobody outside of PG thought that so using that as a crutch this year seems like someone's making excuses already.

Last years PG team was one of the best I have seen along with the 07 Timpview team and the Bingham team w/ Pendleton. And I am a Miner fan. PG didnt lose and wasnt challenged when they had the QB healthy. And when your Alta beat them in OT down there it is my understanding they had 4 of thier D1 kids sidelined. So although we were sick of hearing from them, they were legit and were undefeated when healthy. I dont see them using any part of last year as a crutch this year. Part of football is getting injuries. I see Bingham the same way this year. If we stay healthy, IF, then we should get there. We have too much talent and size (I hope).

I dont think PG advances to the playoffs. They wont beat Alta, Brighton, LP. Nor will they beat Timpview or Bingham. They are close but lose at the end to Riverton and a good WJ team that returns thier QB. It will come down to the Jordan game. Wins against Hillcrest and AF. They have a brutal schedule. If they advance they will have earned it.
