Coach Whit ALWAYS gets our guys fired up for games(especially big ones, unlike our little jealous brothers). I look for several quick strikes out of the gate(just like against Alabama) and for the game to be over by half time. Pitt seems like a decent team, but they won't even be top 25 after week 1 thrashing. We're just weeks away now....

GO UTES

This is a great opener for the Utes. It is nice to play against top 15 teams anytime during the year, but to open at home against a quality opponent is a challenging way to start this final season in the MWC. I'm sure some of the coaches might prefer an easier opener, but for the fans this is great. Much better than opening against a much weaker opponent. September 2 will be a perfect September evening at RES, it will be standing room only, the crowd will be alive, the players will be excited to play - I can't wait.

This is what college football is all about. Two teams with national rankings, new players in key positions, the first game of the season, rematch of the '05 Fiesta Bowl....GO UTES!!!

Monsieur le prof

I'm looking forward to a Utah victory to show the rest of the country the kind of ball played in the MWC.

Chris B - I watched the Alabama game last night to start getting fired up. A repeat of that would be insane. However, don't strike out at BYU, this isn't about them, don't make it about them.

I'm so excited for this upcoming season. I can't think of a better opener. Or a better situation. We are ranked lower in the top 25, hopefully that will make teams underestimate us. Because I know Whitt won't allow our Utes to underestimate any of our opponents. I'm think realistically were in for a 10-2 season. But I would love to see a repeat of 2008. Another perfect season would be the perfect end to the MWC era of Ute football. But honestly, I think that's wishful thinking. But I still hope it happens.

govt rocks

This is going to a real test for Utah. IT should be a fantastic game. Sept 2 get here already! I don't expect this game to be over until the last possession, so saying Utah gets two quick strikes and it is over by halftime is a ridiculous statement.

A win will definitely be great for Utah football this year.
And if Utah can stay unbeaten...well, the sky is the limit.

Go Utes!!!
Win 1 game at a time!!!

GO PITT!

The_Kaiser

I'm hoping that the big playmakers ( Dion Lewis, DE Romeus) are restrained. If so, mark up the win for Utah. But if those two get free reins, we are in trouble.

Lets make September 2nd a hostile environment for those guys, so they will feel the heat of playing in RES! Keep the home win streak going!

Can't wait for this. Go Utes.

Nostradamus

Looks like a good opponent. Agree, should be a fun one. Also agree, Whitt will have the team ready.

GO UTES!

VegasUte

Have my tics for the game! Can't wait!

Whitt will have the team focused and ready!

Go Utes! Love the Crimson!

This is a formidable game but it is interesting to note that Utah has not lost a game to any member of the current Big East Conference in over 30 years. This includes Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl quite handily. Yes, Utah has been their worst nightmare going 5-0 since 1980. Interestingly enough BYU is 2-3 against these same teams during that same period. all this means nothing in 2010 except Utah certainly won't be in awe or intimidated. They can go about their business which from watching the preseason talk and the early practices is a mature, big time program approach to the season. There is no desperation or wringing of hands to get attention or cries about look at me, I'm big too like we have seen from down south as BYU prepares to play a bottom third Pac 10 team and is expected to struggle. Talk doesn't make a program and Utah is all business and the stats that move the national meter show it over the past 30 years in every category that matters nationally.

I know this doesn't mean anything, but on Thursdays College Football Live (ESPN) they had Pitt losing to UTAH. Nice to see people who are outside all this "HOLY WAR" nonsense, picking the UTES over a ranked (15) BIG EAST team.... GO UTES!

Thanks. I almost forgot how Utah has beaten up on the Big-East teams. Granted 4 times its been Louisville, but still...

Just look at what they did to South Florida several years ago (during one of Ronnie Macs losing seasons, if I remember right).

While I hope they will have a similar winning outcome, it won't come without a fight. Pitt has one of the nations best DE and RBs. But hopefully the Utes can rattle their young QB into mistakes and the Wynn led offense can light it up against their weakest part---DB.

Funny... LVCS Open, LV Hilton, Leroy's, and Sportsbook have both UTAH and BYU as 3 point (3.5 LV Hilton for UTAH) favorites. I don't know where you received your info, or if you know how to read a betting line. What's interesting is Boise St. is only a 2, 2.5 favorite over Virginia Tech, it should be a good game. I'll take VT in the upset.

If your right and I'm wrong (reading the betting line), then Nebraska (9) is a 35-36 point underdog to Western Kentucky (WHO?), or better yet... Oklahoma (8) is a 28-31 point underdog to UTAH ST.? Doesn't sound right to me, does it to you?

Last year my son was offered a ticket from a "season ticket holder" to go see the Utes play at RES. Upon arrival he asked the person where their seats were, come to find out it was a free ticket. You just had to show up early enough to get one. The funnest thing was they were almost late for the kickoff and still got in.

Certainly the game will not be a sell out and it will only be standing room only if several thousand tickets are sent out in mass mailers.

It really surprises me that such a "storied" and "potent" program can't sell out for the season. And the PAC12 wants them to enlarge their stadium. I'm sure ALL of the Utah taxpayers are excited to put more money into that hole.

Actually, the Utes haven't lost to any team that currently is, or ever was, a member of the Big East in their entire football playing history. However, we don't have much history with Big East teams.

The first Big East team we beat was West Virginia in the 1964 Liberty Bowl. However, back in '64, there was no Big East. The Big East wasn't born until 7 previously Independent East coast teams banded together in 1991. Nevertheless, the Utes are currently 7-0 all time vs. all teams currently in the Big East.

GO UTES!!!
