Rep. Jason Chaffetz has been fighting for
* Fiscal Discipline
* Limited Government
* Accountability
* Strong National Defense
I am glad he is running for re-election. We need more like him.
Sir, Rep Chaffetz has been mis-informed. The $238 figure that he quoted has bee admitted to be untrue by the Postmaster General. Some of us would call that a "made up lie" but in political language it is nowadays acceptable.
The Postal Service does not need to have 12 work days taken away from their employees during a recession. This is just another Republican attact on the middle class!!
I am with Potter.
Please only deliver mail on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
After all, it's only junk mail! All the important stuff comes in by email.
I don't see a need for the Postal Service to deliver mail more often than once per week. Anything that urgently needs to get somewhere more quickly than that (such as prescription medicines)could be sent via FedEx or UPS.
Any important letters could be solely sent via e-mail or fax, including bills and invoices. That is already what is happening; it is the reason why the Postal Service is in trouble.
As for the once a week delivery I propose, let it be on a rolling basis similar to how trash pickup is done now. People in one zip code might get their mail on Monday, people in the adjacent zip code on Tuesday, then a different zip code on Wednesday. That was the employees would still work every day -- there would just be a need for far fewer of them. That would permit the Postal Service to retain the services of those who are really good at mail delivery and not have to be burdened with those who are not.
I don't see a need for mail delivery more often than once per week. Important messages/bills/invoices can be sent by e-mail. Important packages (such as the medicines someone previously mentioned) could be sent overnight by FedEx or UPS.
The once-a-week delivery could be done on a rolling basis just like garbage pickup is done now, so that the letter carriers would be work each day.
