"all did well in their time on the field"

I don't know what game the reporter was watching, Rimando and Olave got lit up.

None of the goals were Rimando's fault. He made some very tough saves.

Not sure what game stalwart sentinel was watching either. Rimando was left hanging to dry by his defense, and Man U showed amazing skills that I don't think any keeper could stop. The free kick was in the very top corner of the goal. Nobody could get that, and on the goal by Chicharito, he was offside when the ball was played. And Rimando made some great saves in the game.
And Olave was solid all night. It didn't help that he was playing with Alston, who was a complete disaster.

To three11stu, I definitely agree with you on your comments, especially to the query of which match Stalwart Sentinel was watching. He clearly does not understand football. There was nothing that Rimando could have done to stop those three shots from going into the net, save growing a foot in stature in a mere split second.

It was nice to see the United side so well supported in Texas, although it does my head in that anyone who follows an EPL side supports ManU. Stop being sellouts and bandwagon fans!

I also enjoyed the enthusiasm and vigor that the younger players on United's squad had. You could tell that they were hoping to impress Sir Alex enough to stay in Manchester as opposed to going off on loan.

Fitba fan,
I think a ton of Hispanic fans became Man U fans when they signed Chicharito. Did you hear the reception that he got?
The reason I am a Fulham fan is because I love Clint Dempsey, and now that I have followed them for a while, I have grown to love the team. Wonder what will happen if he leaves them.

3 of the 5 goals came straight up the heart of the defense and another was off a free header from inside the six. The fifth goal resulted from a foul given b/c ManU penetrated the heart of the defense (again). Olave had a horrible game.

True, the free kick was not Rimando's fault, but a keeper does more than stop shots, folks. The keeper organizes the back line, which was exploited all night long. Rimando was shellshocked, at best.

Stalwart, you are talking about 5 goals that were given up, and Olave only played in the first half.
1st goal came from a horrible pass by Alston, and the second goal came becasue LeTeux completely lost his man. The entire half Olave was solid, clearing balls and defending.

And for Rimando, gave up a goal on a play that was offside, and tremendous free kick.

Did they play outstanding? No. Were they horrible? No.
And if you are counting 3 of the 5 goals on Olave, I really do doubt that you watched the game since he was only in for 2 of the goals.

Stalwart Sentinel

@three11stu - I can see how the post I wrote can be misinterpreted. My apologies for the confusion.

To speak directly of Olave - He gave up a wife-open header in the middle of the six on a corner and went to ground against Macheda when he definitely should not have done so (granted, Alston's pass was horrible, thus making it worse that Olave slid). And those were not the only chances that came straight through the heart of the defense. Macheda tore him apart.

Rimando gave up 3 goals in 45 minutes, that is bad by any standard, and all 3 goals occurred as a result of the back line being disorganized. It is Rimando's job to keep them organized. He performed poorly.

Together, they gave up 5 goals as the pillars of the defense, how is that not horrible?

three11stu

On the header that lead to a goal, that was LeTeux's man. Olave had his man covered. And there is no way that you can't the first goal against Olave. Just because he was on the field at the time does not mean he was at fault. He had no part in any of the goals, and played pretty good defense.

Part of organizing the back line is knowing the players that you are playing with. Rimando had two days to get to know his back line, and they did not do him any favors. A cheap foul was committed which led to the free kick goal, not Rimando's fault. And on the goal by Chicharito, the back line was 40 yards in front of Rimando. He did what he could to try and get him to miss.
Neither played horrible. Like I said before, they were not outstanding, but I think they represented RSL very well.

First,
Chicarito? was not off-side it was close but thanks to Tivo I was to see it was a good call by the side official.
Rimando will not be bragging about this match in the future but Stalwart is not being fair in his critisism of Rimando, Every Keeper in the world would have given up those goals.
This match was all about team chemisty and unlike Kansas City vs United a couple days earlier the Mls all-stars were on different pages especially after 6+ substitutions.

RSL1

Anyone thinking Olave had a bad game doesn't know soccer or didn't really watch the game. Olave played mistake free soccer. Blaming Olave for the first goal would be insane. Alston made a horrific pass. The first goal was all Alstons. Lets see take away the first goal by Alston and the 2nd goal which was not at all Olave's fault. How many goals by all the players Olave was responsible for? Zero. How many shots by Olave's man? Zero. Headers won against Olave? Zero. Bad passes, a missed clear? Nope sorry didn't happen. In Stalwart Sentinel's defense maybe he thinks Olave is so good he expects him to guard all 11 players on the other team himself.

Morales had a solid performance also. Rimando was just in for target practice once Olave left and they ran right up the middle every single play.

three11stu

I agree, the offside was close. I looked on my DVR, and thought he was off. I guess it is tough for officials, because they have one chance to get it right without replay, and two of us looking at the same play on replay see different things. Crazy.
Can't wait until Saturday. Maybe this lights a fire under our players and they come out looking to blow out DC.
