"...hope, freedom and opportunity..."
All of which are dependent upon the rule of law for protection, let us not forget.
It would have been more interesting if more than a few of the people at the table hadn't been vested in keeping illegals in our population. I think the premises that most of the participants were operating under are quite different from those that the majority of Utahns expect. This was more a case of blowing smoke than solving a problem.
I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know the real reasons why Deseret Media has become the number one pro-illegal immigration propoganda machine in this state. Whether it's the daily sympathy story in the Deseret News or Doug Wright on the radio, half-truths and lies are told regarding this issue to sway public opinion. Why?
Tony Yapias was on Laura Ingraham's national radio show this morning on 1430 KLO during the 8:30am segment. She adroitly decimated Yapias' false, racist America-insulting arguments. There may be an audio archive on KLO's, or Ingraham's site.
Obviously, Flores is open to dialogue--as long as the dialogue agrees with his views.
Flores--and the Deseret News--don't like my view on the matter because it offends them. To the point, it would be helpful--in this spirit of civil dialogue--for us to know the real reasons why Deseret Media has become the number one pro-illegal immigration propaganda machine in this state.
Their objective is to change/shape public opinion on the matter. I know from experience that this shaping of opinion is done best through sincerity and honest openness.
In that same spirit, I want to know those specific factors and reasons why Deseret Media issues daily propaganda in support of illegal immigration--with no dissenting view, mind you. Perhaps we'll agree with them; perhaps we won't. But to hide behind sob stories and amidst accusing the other side of racism doesn't help the dialogue.
Let's do away with "hyphenated" Americans. A person is either an American citizen or not. The illegal Hispanics still overwhelmingly favor the Democratic Party over the GOP, and a majority still think Obama is doing a good job, according to an Associated Press-Univision poll of more than 1,500 Hispanics. But the survey, also sponsored by The Nielsen Company and Stanford University, shows Obama gets only lukewarm ratings on issues important to Hispanics and that could bode poorly for the president and his party. Seeing Obama will never get the re-election votes this November, and the Deseret News issues daily propaganda in support of illegal immigration and hide the "deport them all in Utah word's", when the majority of Utahns want them gone as well, it's time to "REPORT" to ICE, these seen illegal's, and demand that they deport them like yesterday. I have had my fill of partisan sniping and the endless efforts to tear each other down. The extreme liberal and liberal hyperbole blogers of this quality are useless, in the public debate, and should never be printed by a newspaper looking to have a productive discussion on its opinion pages.
PS: Utah's Gov. Gary Herbert's roundtable to talk and listen to each other about illegal immigration was a waste of time and money. Someone should filmed Gov. Gary Herbert's look on his face when asked "do you still want these illegal's as your neighbor?." We are told of a War on Drugs that has no observable effect on drug distribution, price or sales in the United States. We are told the Mexican Army is incorruptible, when the Mexican government's own human rights office has collected thousands of complaints that the army robs, kidnaps, steals, tortures, rapes and kills innocent citizens. We are told repeatedly that it is a war between cartels or that it is a war by the Mexican government against cartels, yet no evidence is presented to back up these claims. The evidence we do have is that the killings are not investigated, that the military suffers almost no casualties and that thousands of Mexicans have filed affidavits claiming abuse, often lethal, by the Mexican army.
We voter's don't want them as our neighbor's either.
Get rid of them all today Gov. Gary Herbert or step down tomorrow.
I agree, Brother Chuck. President Obama will not be re-elected this November. And our War on Drugs has been ineffectual. Too many addictive personalities in the United States of America.
John this "round table" was a dog and pony show with a rigged deck in favor of the the cheap labor employers and the ethnic enablers. What is the real end game here? How many illegal aliens flooding the unskilled labor market can we actually use. Teenagers and young adults are not able to get the jobs because they are harder to manage than illegal aliens doing everything they can to not draw attention to themselves.
The illegals side was well represented in the round table (mainly by those with Hispanic names). Unfortunately, there were no spokesmen for the Welsh, Sudanese, Indian or hundreds of millions of others who are waiting 12+ years or longer to immigrate legally. The quota for Hispanics was filled many years ago. Let some of the others come now. It's time to stop the "selective" (actually discriminatory) compassion.
