Here in France and Switzerland, the cyclist is respected and there are bicycle lanes everywhere. In these crowded cities, it's not only healthy, but extremely practical.
Way to go, Orem!
Wouldnt it be wonderful if cyclists followed the same rules of the road as automobile drivers. In Washington there are tons of cyclists out and about, unfortunately, stopping at stop signs doesn't seem to happen, and riding two-wide on a single lane road is the norm.
I am all for bike trails and lanes as long as it keeps the cyclists off the road.
In France you get knocked off your bike by throngs of people watching a bike race. Way to go France.
Car drivers are just too impatient and too rule bound. Pay attention to others, including bicyclists, on the road instead of filling your mind with the rule book. C'mon car drivers and be part of the solution. Look! Lift your toe off the gas! Turn your power steering wheel with your little finger! In just a half minute you can be back on your hurried way.
Bicycling is fun, practical, and we get needed exercise.
I can't stand people who ride bikes without following the rules.
A while back I had someone almost ride into the side of my car as I was turning right. He came flying into the intersection off the sidewalk from behind a hedge that covered the right near corner of the intersection. Don't ride on the sidewalk and against the flow of traffic.
Then last week at night, I was going straight from a stop sign and I had a guy ride in front of me as I was going through the intersection. Once again coming from the sidewalk going the opposite direction of traffic on that side of the road.
Bike lanes would be nice but people riding the way they are supposed to would be even better.
I like to see more bike lanes to all places in Utah. As a friendly advised don't ride bike next to other bikers which there is no room on the road. On Pioneer day up the Big Cottenwood Canyon there were some riding side by side with other cyclist. That is crazy and it is making drivers nervous. And please stay off the sidewalk.
People in Utah county ride bikes? Who woud have thought?
Unfortunately, a few cyclists make all cyclists look bad, just as a few motorists make all motorists look bad. Let's just all be a little more patient and understanding.
I really hope that one of Orem's first priorities is to put a bike lane along Geneva Road.
