Marketing ploy? Ms. Harrison neglected to mention that the manuscript,"Bree," was available free of charge on Stephenie Meyer's website for her fans to read.

And a percentage of profits made from the sales of the book will go to help Haitians and Chileans who suffered in the recent earthquakes.

Exactly- marketing ploy. The hardcover book was put into stores for sale, while the book available to read (for about a month) on the internet, all while the Eclipse movie was being released. Smart marketing, but marketing all the same.

Also, the offer was "one dollar from each physical book sold will be donated to the American Red Cross," not to Haiti or Chili earthquake relief funds (that quote is directly from the Bree Tanner website). Nice contribution (and also a marketing ploy), but the sales on this book were lackluster compared to the previous books, as people got to read it online for free, had no interest because the story wasn't about Bella, Edward or Jacob, and because many people simply saw the book as, well, a marketing ploy.
