I suspect I drove drunk one time about ten years ago (didn't get a BAC test, obviously), and it scared me to death. I didn't realize it until I was halfway home that I wasn't as alert as I needed to be. Luckily nothing happened, but I have absolutely never come close to doing it again. It's easier to do than you'd think.

OK. Sorry, but does this whole survey thing seem a little goofy to anyone else? "Uh, let's spend a bunch of money we don't have and try and figure out why people drink and drive...."

What???

They do because they can and they obviously think alcohol doesn't affect them like everyone else.

Do they really think there is some underlying reason we don't know about? Obviously I'm missing something here. (Yeah, Ned. Yer brain.... Duh!)

Hey State! Give me half of the 1.5 million and I'll tell ya why in one sentence!

Okay, this is free unless the state would like to give me 1.5 million in jack.

Drinking Alchohol impedes one judgment! No slogan like "know when to say when" is going to change that.

What a waste of $$$$$ -- Most everyone knows why people drink and drive. You don't need to spend $1.5MM to find out what is known. Use this money to buy food for the shelters and jackets and coats for the children and adults who live in the shelters and on the streets. It's going to be a dark, cold winter.

That's just what we all need - another survey and money to pay those who will be on the committee to do it. It's enough to drive anyone to drink.

In this economy, let's save our taxpayer's money. If there needs to be a survey then tack the fee onto cans of beer and liquor bottles. Those who drink have the choice to do so. If they choose to violate the law and drive after indulging, then they have already chosen the consequences. I choose not to drink. I choose not to pay for the survey, but I have no choice. BUT, hey...no one asked me.

This is why we should legalize neighborhood pubs, where people can walk to them to socialize. They work in other european nations and neighborhoods are safe and not littered with drunk drivers. So in Utah if you want to socialize, you have to drive 5-10 miles to do it. Local walk to Pubs are the answer to limit drinking and driving with more leniency on drinking and walking. Utah has become anti social and unfriendly and too self centered.

The only thing that concerns me about the DUI laws is there has never been a case where anyone was convicted of drug use and driving. Also a part of the DUI laws. It's another law of choice and not enforced. We have no tolerance drug laws and rules in schools, jobs, government and businesses, but not driving.
