Beck is a true American hero - not afraid to expose the loonie left for what they are - shallow and absent of any sense of responsibility.

wandrew

As a Libertarian, I do not think of myself as "the loonie left"; but his brand of religious conservatism just makes me want to scream. Who is he to tell me what God wants for this country? The government has no business telling us how to be moral; and a political movement based on such a thing is just wrong.

Good Man!!!

LOVE BECK!!!! says it like it is and is right on the money.

[The biggest applause of the night came when Napolitano said the Second Amendment to the Constitution "was written to allow you to use it against the government if it is taken over by tyrants."]

You know... if the unity thing doesn't unite everyone under Beck's vision I guess. Sometimes people here in utah scare me... this is one of those moments. (seeing as many consider the obama administration to already be tyrants)

Beck is an entertainer, never forget that. Just as you are not surprised when Tom Hanks, Jennifer Aniston or any other actor cries in a movie, you shouldn't be taken in by his acting abilities. All silliness ...

@wandrew

I take it you know nothing about law and its origins. Laws are based off of morals. Morality is the basis for order and stability. I don't mean to say that we all have to believe or profess the same religion, but our values were clearly defined when this country was founded. This country has become great because most people felt very strongly that God had given us certain rights.

Some in the country have bought into the idea of relativism. WHAT A DAMAGING CONCEPT!? The idea that morality is relative only brings disorder and breaks the unity that holds our legal system together.

The alternative to a moral foundation is a fear-based law enforcement. There will never be a strong enough military or enough police officers to enforce laws that nobody believes in. If we're not united in our morals, our country will fall apart. That is exactly what happened to the Romans. Unless we streamline our efforts and solidify our unity our country will crumble.

"...The biggest applause of the night came when Napolitano said the Second Amendment to the Constitution "was written to allow you to use it against the government if it is taken over by tyrants." -- I agree Glenn Beck and the conservative movement but comments like that, though true, only incite the far left to think the right are a bunch of freaks. Comments like that confirm the reason why people like Glenn Beck are called fear and hate mongers.

It is too bad that he has used distortion and manipulation to co-opt principles that all Americans share for his own benefit. Using these principles to demonize the political opposition is reprehensible, as those on the other side of the aisle are trying to solve the nation's problems in a way different than Beck's side (which failed miserably under the prior Administration). He mocks and calls names, behavior that is not what I would expect from a man who professes to love God. He uses religion to advance his own financial benefit. Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing, because even the very elect shall be deceived.

As the saying in the movie stated, "you can't handle the truth". And that seems to be what some Americans can't seem to be open minded and listen to the truth. Yes, the truth hurts but if we use our own mind and decifer truth from lies we will see how honest Glenn is. Watching him is like going to class and learning things that we didn't learn in school. There is no generalization just the facts. Most people are tired of listening to promises and lies by our govt. With regard to change, we can do it if we get out and vote for change and not be complacent.

Politics needs people with the honesty and integrity of Glenn Beck. Ask those who would denigrate Glenn if they have ever watched a week or two of his shows - especially the Founders' Fridays. You will find that their opinions of Glenn were formed from how the "Lamestream Media" portrays him. For goodness sakes, formulate your own opinions without relying on the NY Times, WaPo, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS etc.

Dixie Dan

I much prefer to let my children listen to President Obama than Elder Beck anytime, anyday.

Well... I guess you have it.

Imagine a world where this kind of strange worship wasn't looked upon like it was sacred.

Hard for me to understand.

Peace.

Everyone is born an inner sense of morality, or what is right.
Discard morality from our personal and gov't decisions, then the empty immoral and the destructive selfishness will rule in her absence.
It is true the gov't shouldn't dictate one's beliefs. On that principle, the gov't shouldn't dictate what a person can't believe either.
Glenn Beck would be among the first to fight for a person's right to believe differently, as long as said beliefs didn't tread on the freedoms of others.

UtahBlueDevil

You have to love it. One day the church is urging its members for more civility in politics, the next day Beck and show are alluding that the current administration is a tyrant and needs to be overthrown.

Well, it's clear at least 6,000 didn't get the memo on Friday.

You can disagree with another's politics, you can fight for what you are believe with all your strength, but the calling the other side Tyrants and in many cases wannabe Nazis is hardly in keeping with the admonitions of the first presidency.

Again, many of Beck's stated goals are noble and honorable. It is his methods that are not in keeping with his stated objectives. When have you seen the true leaders resort to theatrics to get their points across. The truth doesn't need chanting crowds, or distortions of others views to be true. The truth stands on its own.

Beck should use his great talents to do what he says, unite, not divide people. But I guess uniting isn't as profitable these days.

SmoothWater

Very interesting that the same story on the Trib's website has over a hundred posts, mostly hate-filled rants against Beck. You'd think he'd have more support here in Utah but most of us are content to sit back and see what happens. Well, we're getting exactly what we deserve.

@WANdrew: He is a man who understands the Scriptures and understands the Founders and what their journals, early writings etc said thus letting us know how they felt and what they wanted for the country they were inspired to set up. GB is a righteous man who has spent years trying to understand God and what he wants for HIS children.

The Govt has a responsibility to BE moral for the sake of its people and get OUT Of their lives as much as possible.

If people understood and lived correct principles, there would be no need for governance, but we are not there so there is.

Glen Beck really alarms me. No, that's not it... the way he can emotionally manipulate an audience, and the way people flock to his bandwagon... that is what alarms me. I mean, the man has "come clean" on multiple occasions that he is an entertainer, he is in the entertainment business, and his job is entertaining people and getting paid (handsomely) for it. Yet his audience does not seem to see it that way; they go to be preached to, they go for "education". They go to support this supposed freedom fighter, a man who stands against the corrupt establishment. They take everything he says very seriously.

It's very ironic that he spoke so much of going blind, for that is EXACTLY what he is doing to his audience: blinding them through emotional manipulation. Wow.

Milt

"Good Entertainer!" Did he also put pictures of little babies up on the screen as well?!

Folks, it is an act, one that has been crafted over 25 years of AM DJ radio work, etc! He is cashing in big time and what is his product?... The validation that is so needed for some reason by conservatives.

And so, like Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity, and Sarah Palin.... Glenn is all about helping your feel good, and coming up with a spin on a story, and a certain wording of an arguement that lets YOU pause and grin and thing "Gosh, those (liberals/democrats/progressives/etc) take THAT!! hehehe!...

Ask yourself: Why are you so motivated by fear and proving yourself right over others?!

The more we are divided, the more we are weakened. The more the well connected ultra rich can continue to run the show to their advantage (regardless of which party is in power) and worse off the average american will continue to be. Google the 'New Gilded Age" and see how the top 1% wealthiest have like 40% of all the wealth. We need policies to help ALL americans not just the richest.

samhill

To "Dixie Dan", who states, "I much prefer to let my children listen to President Obama than Elder Beck anytime, anyday."

How's bout letting them listen to BOTH?

My take on the importance of the 1st Amendment (the one about freedom of religion, speech, assembly, etc.) is that it enshrines the right of EVERYONE to think and speak as they wish. BUT, and this is almost as important, it does NOT require ANYONE to listen; or even respect the expressions of others. So, the importance of actually listening is left up to each of us to discover.

If you have actually listened to BOTH the people you mentioned above and found Pres. Obama to have the superior argument, good for you. But, I hope you will teach your children the importance of doing the same FOR THEMSELVES, rather than censoring them with your foreordained conclusions.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn that both Pres. Obama and Glenn Beck would have the same hope.
