Great article. Let's all remember Jazz mgt. do know what they are doing. Let's not walk the plank before Jazz mgt. have worked the process. It will be fun to watch how the "new" Jazz team comes together with their new members Hayward, Big Al, and Raja. This will be a tougher team than last year. For me not have to listen to "Boozer speak," will be refreshing. Listening to Big Al and his renewed enthusiasm for the game will be very enjoyable. Looking forward to a great and fun season. GO JAZZ!
I really like Bell, but here is a player that is 33 years old and coming to the end of his career. Mathews is a young player and is only going to get better. Both Mathews and Brewer were just as good defenders as Bell and both were younger. So we let both of them get away. Are we any better off?
It seems like we are just as good offensively as we were last year, and better defensively. I am loving these moves.
Fortunately the GM of the Jazz has his rudder deeper in the water than most of the fans. KOC has his work cut out for him in that each team is trying to improve on the same budget, KOC seems to be doing good at his job.
KOC also mentioned in another article that there may be a trade coming up that will help the Jazz, and he did not mention Okur but....
Dick of the NW I am so sad that you had to listen to Boozer speak, I enjoyed when he really spoke and that was on the court. He was a rebounding fool, he intimidated any defender in the key and often had to be double teamed and still put up numbers that were in the top 3% of the NBA day in and day out.
Perhaps his high school or college English professor let him down. They should have told him that if he wanted to be a great NBA star he would have to learn how to speak to the fans, otherwise they could ignore his numbers and just be glad when he left.
No wonder some thought the sky was falling.
why was boozer 'selfish?'
RANDY: I cant believe you said "Falling apart faster then the Obama Admin." Seriously. Weak take and cheap shot. Yeah, last week I posted that I would not spend money on going to Jazz games and buy Jazz gear, if the Millers were not going to spend money to make me want to come see a product that I would enjoy. Obviously Koc and the Millers signed off on a team face lift, because it was the right thing to do for Fans, Sloan, and the team. Had the Jazz done nothing, I would be watching games from home, but since they have made very strong moves to improve, their is no question I will pick up season tickets and grab the first #25 Jersey I can find. GREAT TO BE A JAZZ FAN, even in a tough economy.
BTW RANDY: I hate when people try to mix Politics, religion in Sports Blogs. You have other sections for that. Sports unite people from all walks of life, that is the beauty of them.
GO JAZZ!!
I'm sure the fire KOC crowd will be back at the next available opportunity. Some fans simply refuse to look at the past and are completely blind to the future. But fan is short for fanatic so we can’t be too surprised when fans don’t look at their teams with reason.
Re Jockey:
You are right about the fact that the Jazz would be better off with Wes over Bell, but you’re ignoring one very important factor, money. If the Jazz matched Portland’s offer they wouldn’t have been able to trade for AJ. The Jazz are much better off with Bell and AJ than Wes and somebody like Gortat.
As for Brewer, it was his trade that gave the Jazz the Memphis pick, which was probably the most valuable asset the Jazz had in order to get AJ. Essentially the Jazz traded Brewer, Wes, Koufos, and a future 1st rounder for AJ and Bell.
This last year proves once again that the 2 guard is the easiest position to replace in basketball.
The "Chicken Little" that thought the sky was falling a week ago was this same author. There was no guarantee last week that the Jazz were going to fall apart. There is no guarantee of a good fit for Jefferson this week. O'Connor is not a redeemed sinner just a fairly bright guy trying to do his job in competition with 29 other general managers.
I look forward to this coming season because there are no guarantees. Let the games begin and we will all get a chance to see how things turn out.
I lost interest in reading this guy after his bash on Obama statement. Politics and sports need to be separated.
Re: john_rambo
You don't know why....?
I gained interest in this article after he bashed Obama.
Agree with you Snack Pack.
Great comment about the Jazz and about Obama. I was another one that thought that the Jazz were taking us down the prime-rose path like Obama. I was happy to see them get Jefferson, If only we could get rid of Obama, and replace him, with something, anything........would be better. We are in for a rough ride over the next 3 years, I hope our country can servive,,,,,,OBAMA.
The Utah Jazz helps hold this community together. Is it really necessary to inject gratuitous political comments in such a story?
Being one of the na-sayers, I would like to comment but I am too busy taking my foot out of my mouth...
Despite the recent additions (which I'm thankful for), the Jazz are not as good as they were last year. The Jazz should have matched Matthews contract. We would have had a great tag team at SG with Matthews and Bell. SG is not an easy position to replace. If it was sooo easy, how come the Jazz have not had one since Hornacek ?
Utah's roster was falling apart faster than confidence in the Obama administration. What a great way to describe how so many of us were feeling. Made me want to read on. Thanks!
Lets see here...we dumped Brewer,Maynor,Boozer,Korver,Koufos and Matthews and got Jefferson,Bell,Hayward, hummmm,Todd you NEED to address this,my take,Boozer/Jefferson a wash.Raja at best a backup,Hayward,we don`t know yet.I think we lose all around on these "deals"
The Obama diss was great:)
D-Will should have been our nations first black president!
