So, all illegals are Mexican, you say? This proves my point that the anti-immigrant campaign is based on racism, cultural discrimination or whatever you want to call it. Yes, many do comply with immigration laws. But many non-Mexicans violate the law, including many Chinese and other Asians. The focus is only on Mexicans (and other Central Americans who are derogatorily called "Mexicans"). Look at the secret state, Nazi-style list compiled by the state employees. I'll bet every single person on that his is Hispanic. This modern day witch hunt is based on racism, pure and simple.
Not all illegals are Mexican. Only half of illegals are, more or less. Then another 25% or so are Hispanics, from further South. It is only 20% or so that are from the rest of the World - Asians, whites, blacks, etc.
So, why is it that it is mostly Mexicans and other Hispanics that are getting the advantages of being illegally in the US? That seems discriminatory right there.
Our immigration laws need to be changed. You say your wife had to wait ten years to get her siblings here. For a Mexican who is a citizen of the U.S. it would take 133 years. Lots of people are so up in arms about this issue don't even take the time to know what the problems are.
Do a little history learning. The long versions where we took the southwest at gunpoint after our agressive war towards Mexico. Yes, Virginia we have taken land by illigitimate war.
But instead of continuosly fighting over the land, Mexico has just wanted peace with us. And sure, they took jobs that were offered to them and crossed the border illegally. They could have been firing rockets over and terroizing like the palistinians or Basques in Spain.
If Mexicans hadn't had opportunities here you have no idea what may have happened. Desparate people do desparate things, more desparate than taking minimum wage jobs.
Screwdriver:
Stop using logic and rational thought, it is unbecoming for a civil debate these days. I like to use hyperbole and stereotypes to justify my discrimination. It makes me feel safe and right.
But seriously, I even have close friends who get into heated arguments over this issue. I personally think it's pure xenophobia, a fear of language barriers and (if I'm being completely honest) fear of darker skinned individuals. If these same people were so concerned about the financial toll illegal immigrants have on our economy, why don't they raise similar criticisms over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which in eight years have amassed far more debt for our country than illegal immigrants have in 25 years. By far.
Is is really too much ato sk those who want to immigrate to the US to do it the right way?
is that really too much to ask for?
And where is the wisdom in rewarding those who have done so illegally?
isn't thar a slap in the face of those who are trying to do it the right way?
the truth:
Yes it is too much to ask for people to come here legally. With the current conditions in Mexico, it is nearly impossible for somebody to get the right papers to be able to come here legally. It is way too much money. That is why they come here first, send money back to help their families come legally, and then they can work on getting their papers.
I know this is not true for all who are here, but working with the hispanic population here in this state, it sounds like it is true for the majority.
Agreed, Richard. My familial line conains several ancestors who were immigrants. They entered through Ellis Island, and declared their presence legally. They went on to become productive citiaens, and their grandchildren could not speak the language of the country from which their ancestors came. The were AMERICANS. A process similar to that is how ALL immigrants to the United States should enter.
