wouldn't it be nice...if they brought in Karl to teach AJ a few moves...and probably make his hands fast like Karl has...to strip the ball of opponents...that would be awesome...and then next year...Ante Tomic comes in...it will be solid...if Tomic really is that good...and Hayward develops in to a big time player...i can see him as a Hedo Turkoglo type...but better...i sure hope he gets a lot of minutes...so in 3 years...we get to be the best in the west...
Great players don't necessarily make great teachers.
Carlos who???
It is great to see an athlete that is thankful for the position he is in now... Can not wait for the season to start!!
Al you were custom made for Jazz basketball. Not everyone is happy about Sloan's work ethic. You, will thrive in this city. We will embrace you because of your desire, industry, and humility. You will find the Jazz fans are very loyal to guys like you. You will also be a son to every grandmother in the state. My mother in law is a great Jazz fan (at 80). She wants to bring you home-made chicken noodle soup!
At last a bonafide in the paint player. Someone willing to get in there and throw opponents into the seats. Wait til deron & company get rolling with this guy in the middle. Gasol, Odom & Bynum will finally have someone down low to worry about, and while they are distracted by AJ, Milsap, Bell, AK & Williams will make them pay. Fabulous summer for the Jazz!
Great article! Now, how about an interview-based article featuring AJ's mother and especially his grandmothers? What a made-for-movie, classic story-line! Love this guy already--his sincereity, his speak-from-the-gut (conscientious) attitude, self-made-man-esque demeanor (some mental toughness), and the earnestness of his means-to-'bring it'-each game. Even before he's hit the court, "you gotta love [him], baby!!!
Welcome to Utah and the Jazz, AJ!! Already, you've given us something--a HUGE, refreshing change in the locker room atmosphere, a change from the 'centrist-ic' to making the word "humility" a beckoning call to all!!
Go--Oo-OOO Jazz!!! We're re-stoked!!!
This guy was raised by good folks. Good to see the respect for the game. The more I learn about Big Al, the more I am impressed. He truly is a breath of fresh air when you compare him to # 5. Big Al is hungry! I am glad he can be apart of the Jazz family now. GO JAZZ!!
". . . his small Mississippi hometown of Prentiss . . ."
Didn't the Jazz have another PF that was pretty good who came from a small southern town? Someplace in Louisana? And that guy seemed to have a pretty strong female presence in his life and thrived under the system here in Utah.
It would be so cool if it turns out that the similarities don't end there.
Imagine getting 2 players with the attitudes of Raja & "big" Al. That to go along with D-Will, Milsap, Price and Haywards mentality's and approach to the game is going to make us a team that all of us fans can be proud of. Wow!

Knowing "Grandmas" I think I would rather face Sloan.
Wow, finally a big man in the middle! Hopefully Bell clears his physical, and we'll have the makings of a pretty decent team.
Imagine that ... a BIG MAN that actually wants to be in Utah and play for the Jazz. Who'd a thunk it?
Welcome to UTAH AJ! With an attitude and demeanor like yours, you are going to go a long way in helping fans forget about ...
Uh ... now what was that guy's name?
Al is certainly a breath of fresh air after the Carlos Boozer soap opera.
@ flyingUte There are rumors here in SoCal that the Lakers are trying to trade Odom. If that happens, it will be even better for the Jazz.
I love his attitude and humility! Let's hope that translates to success with the Jazz! I can't wait to see him go head to head with Loozer at ESA! What do you bet Loozer will be sitting on the bench, wearing his Armani suit, or maybe he won't even make the trip to SLC?!
Hey AL --
If your REAL hungry. . . the Chicken Noodle Soup is a nice offer. . .
But come on over to my place fer what yer really hankeren'. . . Pulled Pork Bar-b-que, Black Eyed Peas, Mixed Greens (Collards, Mustard and Turnip) and good down home lotsa bacon in um' Baked Beans.
This is my kinda guy! My granny taught me right too!!!
Hey Jazz fans isn't it just great to hear some words from the heart instead of Boozer speak. Just unbridled happiness with simple language. We will miss Matthews but with Hayward, Bell, and Jefferson, with the rest of the team, this new Jazz look they will play with an edge and a chip on their shoulder. Looking forward to this season. It should be just pure excitement with a NEW attitude on this team. Hey fans, let's not to forget to support the Miller Family and the Jazz. GO JAZZ!
He respect Sloan style and his D's will go up in stats and with add'l stats on others AND plus W. Welcome home!
