I hope the "moderators" are not too heavy handed. The Church has a wide spectum of cultures, not all from the Western U.S. Some things that some areas regard as "doctrine" are really simply cultural traditions.

I've been in some eastern sunday school classes where some events in Church history are openly discussed that are never mentioned in Utah classes.

My experience has been that Church members are more sensitive to controversial aspects of the Church than non members are.

President McKay was fond of saying "All truth agrees with all other truth."

The doctrine of the Church is so strong it doesn't need editing.

This is a really awful idea.
Over the past century and a half so many "truths" have been altered and changed along with myriads of Church issues being swept under the rug that bringing this into the open will be really difficult to handle without looking like the edit police. Better be careful with this one.

Love the change, great approach. The website is as professional as they get. It truly represents me and my family as Mormons--similar to others in our individuality and interests yet different in that we credit our success and value-rooted character upon the principles taught in our religion.

I'm not Mormon but I'll give this website a look. It looks like maybe it can clear up some old prejudices in my mind, especially when I saw the picture of them volunteering. I would like to learn more about the LDS church.

This actually seems like a pretty cool idea.

Who else would be the "face, voice" of the website?

Aeron

I set up an account and thought it was pretty easy. No edits on my profile.

Greetings:

My profile on the MORMON web site has finally been approved.

I submitted it a long time ago, way back when this was first set up, but they never communicated with me so I could correct whatever problems existed.

Thank you.

There is a lack of accurate history on this Mormon website. For example, under the FAQ tab one poster said that women outnumbered men in the early church, which was a rationale for polygamy. This has been proven false.

At least the site promotes literacy and even the study of science.

LetsThink

Claims of proof given without any "proof" are as foolish as anonymous email hoaxes we fall for which also claim this or that and contain no sources or "proof" nor even the authors name.

Withhold judgment my good friends. The scriptures have several examples of righteous men to whom the lord "gave" more than one wife. 2Sam.12:8

I wonder why the Lord permitted Abraham and Jacob. And told David he would have given him more if he desired if only he had asked and not taken his poor neighbor Uriah, a loyal soldier's little "Ewe Lamb".

2 Samuel 12:8 "And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things"

"Lets Think," you might want to follow your own advice.

"The implied assumption in this theory, that there have been more female than male members in the Church is not supported by existing evidence. On the contrary, there seems always to have been more males than females in the Church...The United States census records from 1850 to 1940, and all available Church records, uniformly show a preponderance of males in Utah...This theory is not defensible since there was no surplus of women."
- LDS Apostle John A. Widstoe, Evidences and Reconciliations, 1960, pages 390-392

LetsThink

Lee, I am not addressing your comment about whether or not there are or were more females than males.
I have no idea about that. Nor would it matter to me.

I am addressing the underlying concern about polygamy in general.(And I did give supporting evidence for that)
That is that if God approved and supported Old Testament prophets in this practice, Perhaps it is possible He did so again. Seeing God changeth not and is the "same yesterday today and Forever."

You decide for yourself. Anyway I have had to come to my own conclusions and we both are OK God won't judge us for doing what we think is right. I'm sure you are doing the same. Good luck to you.

"The doctrine of the Church is so strong it doesn't need editing."

Funny, I agree. But the sad thing is that the church in and of itself edits its OWN history. There are certain elements left out of the history of the church that most members are not aware of. That is odd to me that the upper members of the church, apostles included, don't feel strong enough with the doctrine to just present the facts as they are - without editing. There is no denying that the church only wants their members to know what they want them to know. Digging deeper not only draws the anger of other members, but can actually get you excommunicated if you search for the truth about certain things. Kind of hypocritical if you ask me. The church claims that its history is an open book, then tries to hide things. It is a contradiction. Polygamy is only a contradiction because we practiced it and taught it as a doctrine, and now the leaders claim that it is not doctrinal (Gordon B. Hinckley said it is not doctrinal). Strange stuff from the one true church.
