Hate the name of this group...sounds really stupid.

You're entitled to your opinion. I've never heard Kris Allen referred to as an abomination before. That's ridiculous to me but I'm a fan of his. I've seen him live and the audience response was great. It usually is. He's a good musician ans songwriter, and a great guy, with a fine band, but I guess you can't please everyone, especially in Salt Lake City.

As a long time BNL fan, I was very pleased with their performance. I've been to 7 of their shows and while this may not have been their "best" concert, they mixed in a few deeper tracks that I had yet to hear live, which was a real treat. They played a lot of mellow songs, which really matched the setting/venue. My wife and I left with big smiles on our faces with memories of another great BNL show.
I think the fact that this show sold out the same night that Sir Paul played Rio Tinto is a real tribute to this band and their fans.

Abomination, really? Are you deaf?

Leave it to a Glambert loving reviewer to trash Kris Allen! Allen is amazing. He's breathtaking and quite simply one of the best musicians on the music scene today. Plus he's a Christian, that's right, a good Christian singer and he's blessed.

He surpassed BNL! That's right. Surpassed them. I'm a BNL fan but it seems to me they've lost a bit of what makes them special. Allen is new and fresh and pleasing to the eye. I may be old enough to know better but I just had to make my voice heard. Kris, we loved you last night!

Were we at the same concert? Perhaps you were still sipping your wine and eating your shrimp cocktail when Kris came on and couldn't be bothered to pay attention. Most of those present had no idea who Kris was and were understandably reserved. BNL has had 20 years to build a fanbase. Kris was in kindergarten when BNL appeared on the scene. This is a great move on Kris' part to become known. By the end of his set the crowd was more appreciative. I flew into SLC just to see Kris as this was the only concert of his that would fit into my schedule this year. I was not disappointed. Loved it.

Just a guess, but from your description of Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, I'm thinking you hate Idol and are closed-minded in your attitude towards their music. Or maybe it is your musical tastes that are sorely out of date, because Allen's music certainly isn't. His first single LLWD has sold more than 1.5 million copies and his 2nd single The Truth is currently moving up the charts -- which contradicts your statement that his music is outdated right there. In addition, he is absolutely fantastic live. The crowd was tough last night, but at the end of his set, part of the audience gave him a standing ovation -- not exactly a "tepid" response.

It's Run "to' the Hills, just a correction.

Passing through SLC on vacay and got to see one of my favorite Canadian groups in concert. I've been enjoying them for the last 20+years. Great as usual.
I will have to disagree with you on your thoughts on the opening act. I was not familiar with Kris Allens music except for a couple of songs, but the kid is really very good. He's young and only been on the scene for what? A year? He sounded great to me, I loved his original music, and his band is really tight. I'm going to get to see him again when he opens for Maroon5. To each their own I suppose, but I bought Kris's CD when I left last night.

vanessa

Oh "Kenneth"! Haha. I'd bet my house you were no where near this concert last night. Unfamiliar with Kris but just happen to know he's opening for Maroon5 later this summer? You Kris trolls are not that clever in hiding your tracks.

kenneth

Sorry to see one so cynical(vanessa). I never said I was unfamiliar with Kris, I said I was not familiar with his music. I live in a house of teen and young women(3 to be exact)and they make sure they talk non-stop about all things Idol. I half listen. And yes, I will be seeing Maroon5 in Memphis later this summer and yes, I do happen to know Kris is opening for them. I will be much more familiar with his music by then. I very much like Is It Over and Bring It Back already.

stickpin

Ah yes Kenneth, that makes you all the more believable when you make sure to include the 'teen and young women' comment.

I was always told it was 'Glamberts' and other Idol fans who were the passive aggressive types, but I guess Kris has his fair share of strange fans as well.

I am way too road weary for this. Am I the only person to disagree with the review that you're taking issue with? I'm not really sure what I said to tick any of you off, as I didn't really say anything different than was already said. Sad world we live in.

stickpin

Your road weariness can't be too severe cause you keep posting. You must have had your Red bull for the day.

josh

stickpin, why don't you comment on the review instead of trying to start arguments with people who already gave their opinion?

stickpin

Why don't you go back to your Krisbert hole, 'Josh' :)

How can anything this reviewer writes be taken seriously when he obviously fancies himself a musical elitist? He would never sully his ears by watching an episode of American Idol, as nobody on that show could ever have anything of value to offer to the musical world!

I'm sure that if he had heard Kris Allen and his band perform at a local coffee shop, he would have been generous in his praise of this talented performer with the kind of voice and sincerity of performance that is the dream of every music critic. What a discovery! But knowing beforehand that Kris came from American Idol, he could only assume that Kris Allen's music is produced by an "out-of-touch marketing firm." Be we all know what assuming makes one, don't we? Kris's music was all written or co-written by himself and was produced by top current producers. There is nothing corporate about it. And all of his band members are seasoned musicians, having earned their stripes in local bands. If this critic wants his reviews to be valid, he needs to learn to approach each performance with an open mind.
