Why do we even listen to the rantings of extremists like "heal"?
Their characterization of Energy Solutions and the waste received is rather like those people who, in times past said, "if man were meant to fly, he would have wings".
We should understand the issues before we consider making a decision about Energy Solutions or about Low Level Nuclear Waste.
Low level means it isn't very much.
Stand on top of an active Energy Solutions disposal cell. Then travel to the top of a Granite mountain... like the large mountains East of Salt Lake City.
If you do that, you'll find that the background radiation level on top of the granite mountain is higher than on top of the disposal cell.
I've worked there (

I've worked there, and I know quite a bit about what goes on.
If you fear the material that Energy Solutions receives, you should not have a smoke detector in your home... it's far more radioactive than anything Energy Solutions can legally receive.
And don't take a ride on an airplane; when you get that high the background radiation level goes up to a much higher level than what you wold get at Energy Solutions.
And WHATEVER you do, don't own a camp lantern, the kind with a silk mantle. They use a radioactive isotope to make them glow white, and that stuff can kill you.
While the radiation level is low, some of the isotopes that are stored at Energy Solutions SHOULD be isolated from the food supply. We don't want to ingest any of that stuff, but stored properly, it's quite safe.
We could discuss normal exposures to the general population, but most wouldn't understand. But you should know that employees at EnergySolutions receive less exposure to background radiation in an 8 hour shift than most people do during a visit to the mall.

Maybe the analogy would work better if it were cookie dough, instead of a cookie. Cuz everyone likes eating cookie dough, but once they're cooked, they can get overdone.
