Following our state legislature, did the City Council applaud when he resigned?
What was he thinking? Good grief.
Clearly Mr. Nielsen should not be in a position where judgement is needed if he has a drug problem. I will not EVEN get into all the problems he exhibits a weakness toward in the job he had up until the moment he got caught...
Ugh
Well maybe now he can get the help he really needs. He was probably hiding behind his position in denial. One thing to think about... No one individual is immune to drug addiction. It is best he got caught now rather than found dead. Thank God for his intervention, is what he should do...
Here we go, This Guy was a Prosecutor, Just how many more are there of them?
School or no school, I could care less, This dirt bag is prosecuting innocent people un fairly.
All of those prosecuted by this guy should be released.
Being a Prosecutor should get him life in jail.
I am a criminal defense attorney and have worked with Mike for nearly a decade. He is a class act and was ALWAYS a pleasure to work with. He treated everyone with the utmost respect and dignity. I am shocked at this news about the attempted drug possession. If it is true it only shows that none of us are immune to temptation, and should always pray for the strength to resist, and to keep ourselves strong EVERY DAY by having a balanced life of exercise, wholsesome activities and daily spiritual intake so that we can best guard against moments of weakness when we are discouraged or need a relief from what at times we may perceive as overwhelming challenges and stress we face.
Ditto!
Larry, I'd like to suggest that you relax a bit :) Anyway, our war on drugs is an ineffective waste of resources and always has been. It's what creates this "back door" drug business in the first place. Does anyone know if he would have anonymously been able to get help from medical professionals had he chosen to? If so, I believe this man may have done so before hanging out at Pioneer Park. We need to shift from a punitive society to a society that recognizes the need to help people who seek help. I can't help but think that this man would have sought help before things decayed to this point if he could have done so without having to worry about losing his job. People such as he should be allowed a leave of absense to address such issues without said issues ever being disclosed as long as the pursuit is of their own volition.
Des news stated in the story that Mike is 44. He is actually 54. I went to school with him. Born in 1956. He's a great guy. I'm sorry to hear this. I hope he can get the help that he needs
it's a tough gig. That's why I'm for decriminalization of drugs. Like Alcohol all drugs affect personal judgment. It's tough enough to have judgment without mind altering substances in our systems. Now if you do something stupid while on drugs, then the book is thrown at you just as Alcohol. I'm sorry for his situation, but sound judgment and good friends will always keep you as safe as you can get. It's a loss for everyone.
Huh? what? no one is immune to being tempted by drugs? How do you spell RATIONALIZATION...
JUST SAY NO! If we can't say no, how can we expect our children to say no?
"He treated everyone with the utmost respect and dignity" (tellithowitis)--THIS IS NOT TRUE. My heart goes out to his family and I hope the best for them.
I have known Mike for about 20 years~I TOTALLY agree with tellithowitis & criticalthought @ Larry:Why would you say people were prosecuted unfairly? Mike's a dang good Prosecutor, he doesn't budge much, if the elements of the charge are there. AND I WAS prosecuted by him a lifetime ago~for the same thing he (allegedly) did!@getrealpleze: Yes, Saying "No!" is key, but there are all kind of reasons people find their selves addicted, Women-Utah-OB/GYN issues, pain pills...not working.take more...BAM! Weight issues, depression...etc! Nobody takes something in knowing that monkey will ride thier back...We all are above THAT happening to US. Mike has ALWAYS been the guy to support my children's Girl Scouts, BHS choir fundraisers, etc! Luckily he raised his hand high enough for the heavens to hear him cry for help~too hard to do it on your own, unfortunately most addicts need drastic consequences to get and STAY clean! Seems to me that's what the Atonement and sacrament are for, all of the rest of us imperfect people.
LASTLY, you'd better be real careful or Karma will show you that YOU and those close to you are NOT IMMUNE from the disease of addiction. It knows no socio-economical boundaries! My prayers are with you and your family Mike!
Wendy,
Calm down.
Probably his first time ever using drugs.
