It should be continued. If Arizona's bill is cleared, it's going to create a migration to Utah. We need to have a law in place if that happens.

Utah is known for being on the wrong side of history...

Wonderful news! Keep up the good work. Let us know where we can contribute to such a worth cause.

And don't forget to pay your taxes - 12 million criminal illegal aliens are depending on you!

As received in an email:

I have a friend who is president of his homeowners association in the Dallas. They had a problem with litter near some of his association's homes currently being built.

The trash was coming from the Mexican laborers working at the construction sites.

So here's what his community did. They organized a group and called themselves The "Inner Neighborhood Services" group, and arranged to go out at lunch time and "police" the trash themselves.

They bought navy blue baseball caps and had the initials "INS" on the caps.

After the Inner Neighborhood Services group's first lunch time pickup detail, with all of them wearing their caps and some carrying cameras, 46 out of the total of 68 construction workers did not show up for work the next morning -- and haven't come back.

The General Contractor is furious, but can't say anything publicly because he could be busted for hiring illegal aliens. They even informed the INS in advance of their plans, and according to my friend, the INS said basically, "Have at it!"

If race is not used for "reasonable suspicion", what will be? Accent? Neighborhood? Kind of car one drives? Number of children? Religion? Maybe we could require the SSAN be tatooed on under the right arm of all citizens at birth. Then, all that would be required is to raise the right arm in a salute, the number would be revealed and immediately checked online by the newly state-hired army of immigration checkers.

Chris B,

At your 3:18 p.m. post, who was at fault?

The illegal immigrants...

or the contractor who paid them.

Kidding. Trick question. Both of them were.

The contractor was paying them rather than legal citizens.

The Tea party, moderate conservatives, independents and even more empathetic Democrats have seen their rights given to them by their forefathers being eroded by the portentous shadow of Liberal progressives. Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) will be ejected first, as he has carried out his power to weaken E-Verify, federal local detainment law 287(g. On a state level many Democratic Senators and representatives will be joining Reid in the American workers jobless line. City governors such as mayors should join the party as well.

Pagan,

Agreed.

Of course the contractor is also to blame. Similarly, we don't go after just drug dealers in our country but we also go after and prosecute drug users.

The first crime committed in each case is when an illegal immigrant crosses the border. The second crime is when someone hires the criminal. Yes, the criminals are enticed to our country for better jobs, but the criminal illegal aliens each decide on his/her own to break the laws of the US.

Utah - let's get on track with Arizona and rid our state of these criminals!

Chris B: So you've posted your viral email (in several posts now) that is proven FAKE and has a dozen variations going around the web right now. Guess if you want to believe bad enough that's your misfortune.

" Let us know where we can contribute to such a worth cause."
Oh if only we could charge those who believe our tax dollars should be wasted with the cost to litigate grandstanding.

Something fair has to be done for American citizens married to Illegal immigrants...

Say what you want, but hundreds of Americans are married to illegal immigrants and have no way to fix the problem.

American citizens should have the right to marry who they want.

Also, children of illegal immigrants have broken no law...mercy should and MUST be extended to them.

Anything less than this is heartless and cruel, inhumane and says a lot about who you are Mr. Sandstrom and supporters.

MapleDon

Sandstrom obviously has guts. Good for him.

procuradorfiscal

Yes! There are lawmakers out there with guts!

As Rep. Sandstrom indicated, the Obama sanctuary lawsuit is just a transparent political stunt. The federal government will likely be ordered to pay all costs and legal fees incurred by Arizona in defending itself in such clearly frivolous and vexatious litigation.

The language of the bill is fine the way it is. Reasonable suspicion is plenty enough to ask more questions. Asking questions during a traffic stop constitutes neither a search nor a custodial interrogation. Whatever we do, we shouldn't handcuff law enforcement with a requirement for probable cause.

Keep up the good work, Rep. Sandstrom. Here's hoping the rest of the legislature will follow your good example!

'Yes, the criminals are enticed to our country for better jobs, but the criminal illegal aliens each decide on his/her own to break the laws of the US.' - 3:54 p.m.

On this point, I will agree with you Chris B. Entering this country illegally is against the law. Hence, illegal.

The contractor is also breaking the law. By hiring and paying illegals to work for him/her at a cheaper wage than a legal citizen.

The comparison to drug dealers is not always correct. This is comparable to Gov. Brewer of Az claiming that headless corpses were left all over 'the boarder.'

When confronted with the fact that zero headless bodies were found in Az the Gov.'s office claimed they didn't 'specify WHERE they were located.'

Canada?

Yes illegals are here illegally. Does that make them career criminals?

No. Only as much as yourself or me.

If a criminal is a victim, are they a criminal? Should we 'throw the book at them?'

Maybe.

But if you were in this situation, you would hope for some empathy, wouldn't you?

Chris B

Happy Valley,

The story has been verified. Sorry. Regardless, even if it weren't true(which it is) what's the difference? Illegal immigrants are still criminals. They still don't pay taxes. They bring drugs and gang violence into our state. They make it so my hamburgers and hotel costs are a few dollars cheaper and my health insurance and taxes are hundreds higher.

It's a disgrace I have to spend my tax dollars on the education and healthcare of criminals from my own country, but even worse that I have to do it for the millions in my country illegally.

Chris B

Pagan,

"If a criminal is a victim, are they a criminal? Should we 'throw the book at them?'"

An illegal immigrant that takes a low paying job they are not a victim. That job is what they came to America(illegally) for. They could leave tomorrow back to mexico if they wanted. They are not a victim. Yes, we should "throw the book" at all criminals.

I(like most US citizens) are not comparable to criminal illegal aliens. Only the lamest of lame liberals compares illegal immigration to things like speeding or dropping a gum wrapper(which yes I have done both in my life)

The "crimes" I have committed in my life of speeding and littering once or twice have not caused taxes to be significantly higher, as illegal immigration has done. There is no comparison between criminal illegal aliens and 99% of US citizens.

But if you were in this situation, you would hope for some empathy, wouldn't you?

NO - if I had commit a crime(again lame liberals let's not compare speeding) I would not ask for anyone to simply accept the actions of my crime. I WOULD FIX IT. They can return home.

Happy Valley Heretic

Chris B so which is it that story comes with contractors and silly citizens from Dallas, Kansas City, even Chicago for more than 5 years now but I'm sure your version is the REAL one.

3 cheers for Sandstrom.

"Dago Te"-Arizona stands with Utah on this bill. The Southern border must be secured and the law breakers must be brought to justice.

I live in Southern California and would like to share with the people in Utah what Illegal immigration has done to this state. We are overwhelmed with Illegal Immigrants. They are everywhere and their presence has caused a situation which impacts everyone here. Our schools are severely overcrowded and the quality of education has dropped dramatically. Crime committed by Illegals including carjackings, identity theft, hit and run, drug trafficking, murder and assault has increased tremendously. Gang violence is at critical mass and law enforcement is ineffective in controlling the problem. People who are working in the construction trades, the service sector, manufacturing and transportation and others have seen their wages plummet and businesses who employ U.S. citizens suffer while those who employ Illegals prosper. Illegal Immigration is eroding the tax base here in California. Illegal Immigrants pay little or no taxes and create enormous social financial liabilities for our state. Illegal Immigrants drive down wages and therefor lower tax remittances overall. Illegal Immigration is costing the California taxpayer BILLIONS every year in lost revenue! I hope and pray that Utah doesn't become like California because we are in hopeless economic and rapid social decline. Be careful.
