We didn't adopt our cat, she adopted US. One day this little black and brown tortoiseshell kitten showed up in the back yard. We started feeding her and eventually took her in. That was seventeen years ago. Today BooBoo is about 75 years old in cat years, but despite a few missing teeth she's still in good health and has been my most constant companion. She is my pride and joy.

Why would anyone want to adopt a cat?
When was the last time that a cat saved someone’s life, or scared away a robber?
If there was a fire, a cat would just run away
Cats are like a high maintenance woman, who wants that?
I will stick with my bull dog, thank you very much!!!

I love my adult cat.

She was given to me by others who could not keep her. I adoped her, and another from a litter 5 years ago.

Today, I have given them their shots and plan to get them chiped. So if they loose their collars, they can still be identified.

I took responsibility for these lives and have never regretted it.

My older cat has an establised, wonderful personality. She complains when I pet her...while purring.

Don't JUST look for a specific pet. Keep an open mind.

An older, black cat is only bad luck if you let it.

Besides, if a burglar is superstitious, an older black cat might save you some grief.

Polish Bear, we love our pets don't we? Shelter pets are the best. We adopted two little cats who were previously abused and very shy. Best cats we have ever had.

Folks, if you are looking for a companion, check the humane shelter or Best Friends.

You will be greatly rewarded.

Google "heroic cats" and check out the numerous sites that result. That will quickly disprove your assertions.

Ok I googled it, in one story the lady was having a seizure and that cat licked her eyelids because the cat wanted to be fed.
Lady’s having a seizure and the only the cat thinks about is "feed me" typical self centered cat behavior.
The other one the cat could not get out of the mobile home on fire, so it meowed until the owner woke up.
The cat would have split if it could have; it was only worried about its own skin.
In contrast a dog would drag its owner out of the flaming house.
dogs win again!

Ok. Vidar dosen't like cats.

Got it.

Regardless of your prefference, cats CAN be nice pets.

Regardless of those who claim to have 'kitty ESP.'

re: Pagan

Actually I do like cats, they remind me of a woman.
Just wish I could find cat or woman that would love me unconditionally like a dog does.

Vidar, I hope you succeed. I'm not really in the marked, as it were.

I can offer tips on how to train either. My cats come when called or stay.

Practice, practice, practice...
