The story is great, but what about the injuries when some fireworks were shot into the crowd?

Charla Woodbury

My son Charles attended the Stadium of Fire and saw a couple of people injured when some firewords misfired in the wrong direction. Please update the state of those injured.

Brother Dave

Sounds like the Stadium of Fire was Spectacular again this year!!

Sorry that I missed the celebration. I was caught
out of State this weekend.

God Bless Carrie Underwood and all of those who participated.

God Bless all the servicemen around the world Protecting our Freedoms!!

God Bless America!!

To most People, Patriotism is a word we fly the Flag.
After that, The Subject is lost.

Charla: That is the hazards of being under the fireworks.

I regret the feeling among so many that all wars entered into by our nation are, as a matter of course, necessary and necessarily glorious.

I would like to see the United States true to its credo of "friendship with all and alliance with none".

Surely what was called for, when terrorists attacked the Twin Towers, was a tightening of our national borders, our seaports as well as our airports and so on, and a temporary cessation of immigration as well as trade and visas to nations which harbor terrorists. Instead we have one more war based on a false premise (WMD) and with a promise of it's c easing when Saddam Hussein was removed from power and democratic elections held in Iraq.

We have borders that are not defended, seaports that Bush tried to persuade us to give into the keeping of Saudi Arabians, a perpetuation of the war in Iraq and its extension into Afghanistan by the current C-in-C.

I wish I could have heard more about freedom and peace in the current celebration, more about founding documents and founding fathers but I fear that the two approaches to "patriotism" are diametrically opposed and incompatible.

Your concept of "false premise" is simply wrong, and has been perpetuated by the democrats (to malign George W. Bush) and the complicit media. The fact is, when one goes to war they use the best intelligence available. That's what the US did. This intel was corroborated by many trusted allies. So your phoney-baloney, plastic-banana, good-time-rock-n-roll, peace-and-love attitude can go have a bowl of granola! Go send in your payment to amnesty international, but don't forget the veterans who fought to keep you from speaking Japanese or German, or Arabic.

America is great because America is GOOD!

May God bless America, now and forever!

Well I am certain that the talk was indeed of weapons of mass destruction.

I'm sorry you're so upset. I am not the liberal hippie and whatever else you have imagined. Quite the reverse. Call me a conservative libertarian and constitutionalist and you'd be nearer the mark.

I'm also sick of patriotic Americans being sent into danger for nothing and the governments who do it. The wars are usually phoney and then they don't allow the military to win. They use crises to reduce freedom to ever lower levels and waste the treasures of the USA in vain. So do the liberals with their constant social spending on welfare moms etc.

Dear Medicant:

"I wish I could have heard more about freedom and peace in the current celebration, more about founding documents and founding fathers but I fear that the two approaches to "patriotism" are diametrically opposed and incompatible."

When you "hear" about the founding fathers, and the founding documents you are often hearing "selective propaganda", because you hear quotes out of context, and selections that do not necessarily give an accurate "snapshot" of our founding fathers, because their ideas and beliefs were changing and maturing all the time.

I suggest you take the time to read John Locke, Baron de Montesquieu, and Thomas Hobbes, the same philosophers the founders read. Go to the Yale Project Avalon and read the primary source documents that our nation was founded on.

To many people rely on Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Keith Oberman, Bill Maher and Rachel Maddow to give us an idea of our personal political philosophy, because that is just too easy.

Stop waiting for people to tell you about our founders and go read it for yourself.

You'll find the deception by the media looking to sell advertising to be a suprising revalation.

Good luck my fellow American.

Read the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist Papers.

The National Archives is another great source for information.

"The wars are usually phoney and then they don't allow the military to win."

Do me a favor, do the research and cite the source. Also with welfare moms.

If you are happy listening to talk shows and just enjoy feeling the anger, then I can understand and support that.

But if you are really interested in "knowledge", invest the time to find out the facts.

By reading your comments, and your claim to have a political philosophy, you apparently don't have the background knowledge to call yourself a "conservative libertarian and constitutionalist".

Seriously, if you are interested, spend some time reading. I think you will find it fascinating.

You're wrong again and nasty with it.

I am a History major and am very familiar with source materials. I am a great admirer of Locke and Montesquieu was an Anglophobe, not that there's any thing wrong with that, depends how you argue it.

My sources are not "Talk Radio" but "Talk Radio" is not just one source or one show either.

What is your source: John McCain?

James T.

Why ruin a wonderful show with all the pseudo-patriotic ranting?

Carrie Underwood with her band was amazing, but I could've left after she sang the Star Spangled Banner to kick off the night- that was AWESOME.

bigal

As the Osmonds Second Generation, all 8 Eagle Scouts, sang a tribute to the 100th Anniversary of Scouting with all of those hundreds of Eagle Scouts, it made me wonder why more families don't support scouting. What other organization takes young boys and and makes MEN out of them. They teach them the values that so many young boys lack in today's world and introduce them to many vocations and learning skills that can help them get a career started. I applaud the Boy Scouts of America and those that make it to rank of Eagle Scout!

mendicant

You're right. Why ruin a good show (presumably meaning Carrie Underwood and the Osmond family) with "pseudo patriotism".

Why spoil a freedom festival talking about freedom? What kind of pseudo -patriotism is that? It's all about Carrie Underwood and the Osmond family. I stand corrected; hope it didn't spoil the flavor of your hot dog.

I don't believe that Carrie Underwood took the mic again to sing God Bless America. I think it was a recording and the artist was Celine Dion. Anyone agree?

You all realize that these "word wars" are allowed to be posted because this is America...the land of the free. Everyone here gets to have their own opinion of what Freedom means. What I find so ironic is that as American's we just love to tell everyone what our opinions are and that we are right and that if you don't share in that opinion...you are wrong! Personally...I think that celebrating the 4th with song, dance, fireworks, parades, family and hot dogs is wonderful and I have a sense of pride and I am consumed with the energy these activities bring... I also believe that there is a time and a place to reflect on the history of freedom in America and I love the sobering pride I feel when remembering our Founding Fathers and I believe that each of us has the right and the duty to vote for the candidates of our own choice. I don't have to agree with anybody.. but, as an American I do have to respect them. Knowing and believing this: the flavor of my hot dog will not ever be spoiled! Happy 4th of July Everyone!
