You cannot lose money by underestimating the taste of the American public.
It's because Stephenie Meyer is Mormon. People here "relate" to her.
@ Mom of 2
What is because Stephenie Meyer is Mormon? Is this series about Mormon characters? Wow. I had no idea. Maybe I should finally pick up one of the books, I thought they were about teenage vampires.
Dear Mom of 2: Is there something wrong with that?
Mormon or not, the books are ridiculous.
I was over at The District last night on a date with my wife and we were both laughing at the hordes of middle-aged women screaming in delight as they ran into the movie theater to cheer on these stupid teenage vampires. Made me think...if there was a theater full of 40 year-old-men screaming for 17 year-old girls, someone would call the police.
Just sayin'.
Wasatch Sasquatch-
Careful bro, I got yelled at by one of those women on the other thread for saying something similar ha ha!
What a waste of time and energy. Ms. Meyer should put her talents to better use then writing junk like this and then taking more money by making movies of the same thing.
Johnny Triumph.. Ms Myer can now afford to put her talents anywhere she would like....
Re: Johnny Triumph
Who are you kidding? I may not understand the interest of this story but I'd certainly encourage my wife to do it if she had the idea instead of Stephanie Meyer.
I love all these crabs that love to pull someone down who has actually accomplished something.
The fact is, the books are teenage romances. But, they do teach some important values. That's what a lot of young people today need. They don't find anything in the pop culture that teaches love and moral values and they are craving this.
Okay, so it's not Shakespeare. She doesn't pretend it is. But, it gives kids some values to work toward while enjoying a fun romance.
Again, I can't believe how mean and nasty people are toward someone who is successful. I commend Stephanie for accomplishing what she has. I don't allow envy to make me hate someone. Why don't some of you people get out and accomplish something. Then you wouldn't have to spend your time putting down someone who actually has.
The author plays on the minds and hearts of most girls/women like a cheap violin. Lonely, self proclaimed clumsy girl who doesn't think she is pretty, meets out of this world gorgeous guy vampire who instantly loves her, along with all the other guys. Add a little danger and bingo: Instant success.
Um, guys...The ACTORS are over 18...they just play CHARACTERS who are 17!
Besides, maybe these 'screaming women' need a little more romance in their lives, which is why they like they novels and the movies.
(No, I haven't seen the movies, and do not intend to...but I have read the books. I can take'em or leave 'em.)
Why does it bother YOU so much, is what I want to know...
Dear TJ Banks: Again another crab who wants to pull someone else down because they are successful. Sad!
I agree with Cats. It's usually those who are most miserable who go around finding fault, criticizing, backbiting and condemning others who are successful, and who as well have a bit more than what they have. ( It's called jealousy) It also gives them a sense of power to judge others and put them down continuously.
I personally think the twilight books are GREAT!
Cats/Daizy - Is it because she's successful, or is it because they genuinely think the works in mention are ridiculous? If you were to ask, I could pretty much guarantee that any of the complainers could list other popular/successful artists and artwork's that they do like and that they don't "criticize" and "condemn" (as if discernment and preferring one thing over another and stating one's opinion were really signs of misery) - pretty much destroying your argument that they automatically hate everyone and everything that is popular.
I've never read the books or seen the movies, so I generally just ignore the "Twilight" stuff - but there are lots of others things that I like (some of which you probably don't) and lots of other things that I don't like (some of which you probably do), and sometimes I'll state my opinion of such things. And, I'm willing to bet that at some point in your life, you've probably stated a negative opinion about a successful person or a work of art - you just don't appreciate it in this instance because it's about something that you like.
WOW, folks lets not all get bent out of shape on here. Leave that to the vampires...LOL!!!!
I think that there are some really disturbing elements in these books...violence directed toward Bella being one. I'm not envious of success, it can bring it's own problems.
I was at BYU at the same time as Stephanie, and, despite what the haters would say, I bet she is the most successful person who wqs a student during the six years I was at BYU (that included a mission).
More successful than any athlete, engineer, statistician, business student, etc. She does not hide from her standards or her religious upbringing or BYU education. How many twi-hards have joined the church somewhere in the world because of answers people sought out because of her? Scary thought, I know, but probably more than a few.
I do think it is jealousy. And bitterness.
To-Stephanie Meyer---Keep up the good book writings :0) and we will keep reading them.
