Tom get us in the BCS Conference your legacy depends on it. If you can't resign and let someone who can get the job done.

I like the sound of Mr. Holmoe's comments...never bothered me, nor should it bother any Cougar fan that Utah got the invite to the PAC10. It was never a surprise that BYU was bypassed in favor of Utah. Utah is a great fit w/ the PAC10...liberally minded, "think" they are smarter than they really are, and fit that mindset on the left-coast to a "T". Way to go Utah, I applaud you and your accomplishments in the last 7 years...before that, not much to be giddy about, unless you're a Ute-fan.

As for BYU's future? Not one thing to worry about. With a great tradition well intact, w/ a very bright future w/ the kind of talent that will don the Navy Blue and white, w/ some great and challenging competition ahead, BYU's program is doing quite well, thank you very much! And UTe fans, let not soon forget that your big brother still own U! Please don't make complete idiots of yourselves, and continue that horrible winning percentage with the PAC schools...1-10 on the road since 1994 is just plain embarrasing...

As a BYU fan, it's good to hear Holmoe speak. We Cougars need to hear something right now, anything. All the cryptic references don't help much though, but they're better than nothing.

BYU fans need to just chill. The sky is not falling! I have not been worried about the future of BYU one bit just because Utah is leaving the conference. A little jealous, perhaps, but still confident that the future of BYU athletics is bright and full of opportunity. Yes, Utah is moving on to greener pastures after a century of conference affiliation with BYU. But that does not mean BYU will go hungry. The mighty Cougars will continue to hunt in the rocky mountains, and dine upon the rams and lobos, and the broncos and horned frogs. Rise and Shout!

nomo

Utah will represent the state in the PAC 10 very well thank you. Could this last regular season holy war be the biggest one ever...

RockOn

Good to hear from Tom. I like his and BYU's attitude of "do what is right let the consequence follow." It's still the best marketing/branding advice. Be yourself and don't compromise your standards. Utah will sell out on their indignation against the BSC and will become part of the problem.

Utes 31 Tide 17

Sad how the zoobs try to comfort themselves saying they've won "3 of the last 5"...

Does it occur to anybody that they've also won 3 of the last 8?

Terry

Not a secret that the Big12 still needs 2 more teams for a championship and are warming up to the idea again now that the dust is settling. Sure sounds like that is the cryptic response he is talking about. Would be awesome, even if it takes another year or two!

Utah's had 2 remarkable football seasons this last decade, but BYU's been more consistant, both recentlly and historically. After football, there's no comparison to in the rest of the athletic or academic credentials. BYU wins hands down. In fact, BYU's program ranks up near the top of the current Big XII. To see how impressive BYU's resume for the Big XII is search Bleacher Report website for Bama Coug. You might be surprised how solid BYU's resume is and it will make you scratch your head why the PAC 10 passed on the Cougs.

Boom

Funny how the tune has changed considerably...from the sound of things I would say there are more Utah haters than byU fans (Max Hall, Dick Harmon, et al).

On a lighter note, I do hope that the the wh?Y receives a BCS invite because 1) I can't stand much more whinning (Kleenex must be killing it Provostan) 2) They deserve it and 3) What Pac-10 team cares to beat up on the MW?

Go Utes!!!

RE: Utes 31 Tide 17

It's 3 out of the last 4 and yes, you should be worried; no victory is more important than the most recent one. As far as the Utes/PAC 10 deal, it looks really "Rosey" now, but the "U" will come to curse the day that move was ever made.

Honest Abe

I think at some point soon BYU will join one of the other major conferences. They have a great athletic department. If, per chance, not playing on Sunday is a factor for not being considered, then these conferences have their priorities messed up. A school where standards are more important than $$$ and prestige is more important than if they won every game.

"Tom get us in the BCS Conference your legacy depends on it."

Mr. Homoe needs to focus more on the off field cultural "issues" then the athletic successes.

Prop 8, Online classes for jocks, No play on Sunday and basically high maintenance are all problems BYU will need to "sell" to a BCS conference

Chad S

The answer is not to "join" the haves, but to become one of the "haves." The MWC can do this, but without Utah it will take top 15 finishes from BYU, TCU, and BSU during the next two years. A couple more BCS bowl wins wouldn't hurt either. Since UNLV, New Mexico, CSU, and SDSU don't plan on winning football games anytime soon the future of the conference lies in the hands of the top three. It will be harder without Utah, but not impossible. For me it's a relief that they've finally cut themselves off from BYU and conference affiliation. Maybe we can all just cool off for awhile.

UteFan123

BYU's been more consistent, Utah has had two great years? What about BYU prior to 1972 your program was a joke. Utah owns BYU and dont forget it BYU will never catch up to Utah in the over all series record in my lifetime. Enjoy the MWC there is no way A&M and Baylor votes BYU and that is coming from a great source.

Dear BYU Dude. You have got to be a troll using a false name. You sound like one of those types who feel they can force themselves onto anything or anyone. Your attitude is that we should force teams to come and play us and then force other leagues to take us. Get a clue. Because at this point your are clueless as to how athletics work. You somehow seem to think BYU is sitting back and doing nothing. Wake up and start paying attention to the news articles in the past ten years. Get out of bed and off the couch.

Dear Utes 31 Tide 17. Why is it the Utes come on this site and bemoan the fact that some BYU fans still live in the past, but your name is in the past. In fact there are quite a few Ute fans who still live in the past. I congratulate the Utes on being invited to join the PAC 10 or PAC 11 or PAC 12 whatever they are going to name themselves. Kudos to them.

Because of BYU being a religious university it was never going to be invited. I am fine with that.

"After football, there's no comparison to in the rest of the athletic or academic credentials."

What are you talking about? How in the world do you compare BYU's academics, a school that offers a PhD in a whopping 25 fields of study to Utah's 90, and say that BYU wins hands down? How do you do that?

Of late, BYU have made a big a deal about the size of their stadium. I have news for all of you...stadiums can be built or expanded, it only requires money. I would like to see BYU build a world class medical school.

BYU and Utah are two very different types of institutions. Trying to compare teaching vs research is like comparing apples to oranges.

BYU is most impressive in the minds of their own. The PAC has spoken and BYU has for the first time found themselves on the receiving end of a good hard slap in the face. Why? Because BYU doesn't measure up to PAC standards...it never has, the bar is too high for BYU.

BYU DUDE | 11:41 p.m. June 25, 2010 is right. Viewed in a different way Holmoe's comments are self serving.

UtahUtes1

I read the article and have to say that the "Sunday play" card is old and over used. I would like to see a DN reporter actually do some investigation and spell out what Sunday play in the PAC really means.

A few weeks ago at my request a BYU fan reported on one of these boards that the PAC engages in track and field events on Sunday. Is that it? Is that what we are talking about? So BYU drops track and field and the Sunday play issue comes off the table. Is the issue really Sunday play or is Sunday play an excuse to make yourselves feel better? Don't try to tell me that the PAC plays football and basketball games on Sunday because they don't.

As for the football record mentioned at the top of Rock's article...I suggest to you that the PAC has higher regard for Utah's two undefeated seasons in the last six years than for BYU's one undefeated season 26 years ago.

Bluto

I believe the silver lining in all of this is that Whittingham and the UofU President, by the way, both "BYU GRADUATES", will not forsake their Alma- Mater.

Unlike Urban Meyer and snarky U fans, these men will, in their own way, fight from the inside, for their Cougar brothers.

It serves no purpose for The U to watch BYU become a lesser than.

For some U fans, they relish the thought, but even Utah's new found home will also bring more attention to the State and BYU, in a proxy sort of way, particularly, if BYU is showing ranked higher in the polls.

Either through going Independent in football only, achieving AQ status for the Mtn. West or perhaps a Big 12 invite, somethin positive will happen for BYU.

BYU is unique, and like Utah, will land where it fits best.

BYU will not stand still. The U landed in the perfect spot for them.

However, contrary to some BYU fans wishes, the Pac 10 was never a fit for BYU, they never fit the model, nor was extending them an invitation ever a consideration by the school President's.

It's why they had Colorado trump Baylor.
