Tom get us in the BCS Conference your legacy depends on it. If you can't resign and let someone who can get the job done.

Getting BYU into a BCS conference isn't up to Holmoe.

What's the MAIN attribute needed?

You have to be wanted.

So ... how does BYU go about doing that?

An undefeated football season (or two) and a couple of BCS Bowl wins would do a lot for BYU's sex appeal. After that ... it's out of BYU's hands.

Holmoe's legacy? Don't be a fool. There's nothing Holmoe or any other AD could do to make the Big 12 want to expand or make the Pac-10 any less religiously bigoted. He can't make any of the eastern conferences more practical geographically.

Getting into a BCS conference isn't the solution. Playing football well enough to become a AQ BCS conference is the solution. Without Utah's numbers the MWC big 3 will have to pick up the slack. That means top 15 finishes for each team, BCS bowl wins over quality teams (not Pitt, btw). I'd rather be in the top echelon of an AQ MWC than mired in the middle under Texas and OU.

DEar BYU Dude still clueless as ever.

Easy for a playof system. Take the top 4 poll teams. #1 plays #3 and #2 plays #4. Winners play each other. Winner is national champion. These 3 games could be in one of the so-called top 3 bowl games. Teams can talk all they want about the student athlete, but they are using the student athlete and using them to build their own reputations. We have seen how the schools feel about athletics over the past month with the conference realignments. Show me where the money is and I will show you where their hearts and minds are.

Let's be honest with each other for a minute. BYU will simply not be able to compete with an elite BCS school in the same media market. Any potential recruits will now objectively look at the situation and say to themselves:

"I can play at BYU where the NFL scouts can watch me play only if they are able to get the Mountain Channel and if only they are able to watch the wobbly and grainy broadcasts."

or

"I can play at Utah where NFL scouts will watch me play weekly on NBC and ESPN and I will be able to play for a National Championship each year and I will be in a BCS Conference with ties to the Holiday Bowl, Rose Bowl, the Alamo Bowl, etc."

This is the beginning of the end of the recruiting war for BYU.

I would like to hear specifics from Tom Holmoe about how and when he plans on moving us to a BCS Conference and out of the MWC.

Why was Tom being secretive? I hope it was because he is in contact with the BIG 12 and is negotiating our move out of the MWC.

If Tom can't get us out of the MWC, then BYU needs to go independent. I'm sorry Tom, but we have been patient and it was very disheartening to see our rival who doesn't have the football tradition that we have, get selected by the PAC 12 over us.

Specifics, please. I can't bear watching us play UNLV, Wyoming, New Mexico, San Diego every year on the Mountain.

Please, Tom, get us out of the MWC or at least tell us your plans on your best efforts.

It's because he's got nothing, but knows the tdS faithful will believe anything they're told. If they're told he's got nothing, you'll give up on your program. If he acts like something big is looming over the horizon, but doesn't say "ybU-to-the-Big-XII", he knows zoobies will fill in their own blanks and tell themselves whatever they want to hear. He'll then get to retain their program support, and he won't have to bare any false witness.

I'm telling you...it's actually a pretty great plan.

"...it was very disheartening to see our rival who doesn't have the football tradition that we have, get selected by the PAC 12 over us."

The Pac-10 wasn't looking for someone with a football tradition of being shut out of the BCS, losing big games, or posting 0.357 bowl winning percentages. So they went with the Utes [who were a better fit academically as well].

Hey Otis the NFL scouts find the best players wherever they go!

The real thing that matters for recruits is which school can make me the best player?

The money from the exposure helps makes players better, but the exposure doesn't matter. The best players wind up in the NFL no matter where they go.

Joe Flacco? If you can play ball the NFL will find you.

Oh and there will still be plenty of LDS kids who want to play for BYU. BYU will be fine.

BCS is a joke. Has been for years. Something is wrong with our country if it takes so long to fix something as obviously unfair as this.

Kyle, keep believing that, keep believing. If you try hard enough you can even convince yourself that it's true. Just remember to keep believing.

Is Jake Murphy becoming a Ute? Sad to see all the zoobs bashing him on the zoob websites. I would switch too if I was treated as poorly as he is now by so-called "fans". Come to a real school Jake, we will welcome you with open arms - a substantially better situation than what you are in now!

Go UTES!!

high school fan

if being a member of a congerence made you recruit better, then mountain west teams would never have been beating pac10 teams or big 12 teams or any others. byu will still get their recruites and utah will still get theirs. utah will get the same recruits they have been getting and thats all. if they want to be better, they need to still usc's or texas's, not byu's.

Duh

For those who think that BYU is going to lose recruiting, you have no clue. BYU has never had superior recruiting because of their honor code. Most players come to BYU to play becuase they weren't taken somewhere else or because they are mormons and the school appeals to them. No, Utah has always had the better recruits, they just didn't have a coach who could make the best use of the players. Now they do and that's what makes the difference. Now, players who would have made it at Utah because will be looking elsewhere because Utah is now open to the PAC-10 conference. If Utah were to become a premier school it will only be because of the opportuntity for more superior players, nothing more. BYU will be just fine and this will make them a better team. It will give them quality points and Utah will have to be careful because now, if they lose to an NON BCS school, it will make them look bad just like all the other BCS teams who lose to NON BCS Teams. Get a clue people.

RSL1

"Take the top 4 ranked teams and have a playoff" That is stupid. Hey, lets ditch the whole NCAA basketball playoff and instead have the top 4 ranked teams have a playoff. Wouldn't that be better. So exciting with 4 whole teams playing. Oooh somebody pinch me! How about each division 1 football conference gets a playoff spot. Then add some at large bids to make a 16 team playoff. It's really that simple. It will be 100x better than the idiotic bowl system we have now. All bowl games are a waste. Give us a playoff!

Who's Jake Murphy and what's going on with him at BYU?

Sorry, I don't live in Utah and I don't get on BYU Web Sites. What's the story here?

It is already happening. Utah has landed several 4 star recruits who said they chose Utah because of the PAC 12 invitation. You will see more and more flock to Utah.

Utahutes1,

Jake Murphy is WR from American Fork and a '08 BYU recruite. He's just coming back from a mission and wants to transfer to Utah.

He was rated the 3rd best instate player in '08 but i got to be honest, Utah is pretty stacked at WR. Maybe he can be a walk on.

RSL1

I hate to break this to Ute fans but in the PAC12 there will still be limits on scholarships. You will not suddenly recruit every player in the country to Utah. Also, many of the players you give scholarships to will not pan out. Many of the players you dont give scholarships to will go elsewhere and be great. Many of the players you want will still inexplicably go to BYU (For all the reasons the PAC12 didn't want BYU). You will get a few more higher rated players you want than before - which doesn't automatically mean better players. Your impact on BYU recruiting will be virtually zero. (For every good recruit you steal from BYU they will likely just go find someone else equal to or better than.) Its just really hard to tell in high school who is going to be a great college player. There are very few "sure things".

Gifford VanBuren

RSL1,
Thanks man. I know it must have been hard to break it to us but we really appreciate it. I guess it takes some-one from your inside vantage point to really explain how college athletics work. Your indepth analysis will really help. Do you want to be facebook friends? I'd love someone with a perfect knowledge of the recruiting process to break things down for me on a regular basis.

You're the Man!
Giff.
