Really? Shurtlef?!!! he definitely wouldn't have gotten my vote and i dont think he would have made it past the state convention. Why is he even mentioned in this article. Get out.

WOW, just Amazing, good job to all the voters!

There is no way I would vote for Bridgewater. Every time my phone rings, it's a recorded call from him. I've been getting 3 or 4 a day. It has totally turned me against him.

I thought it was funny how we get a mailer saying that Bridgewater was going to run a positive campaign focused on the issues and not run a negative campaign like his opponent (which, saying that seems like a negative thing...), and then in the same stack of mail is a another Bridgewater mailer saying there are too many lawyers in DC and Mike Lee is a lawyer who sued Utah on behalf of Energy Solutions and how he's supported by a senator who is trying to get rid of his states waste... all "paid for by Tim Bridgewater for senate." Not that this means I liked Mike Lee either, I just thought it was very hypocritical... and PLEASE STOP CALLING ME!!! (I hope that isn't an excessive use of capital letters - I don't think it is, but anyway...)

Amen "scrapbookmomx5" I asked them over and over to please stop calling - they're calling me on my cell phone for crying out loud.

It is not helpful for the media to call an election for which no vote has been cast...Sam Granato is a good man and it is doing him a disservice to claim he is out of the race. We have an elected democrat in republican Utah, it's not inconceivable to have another. Granato is a good moderate voice and to say he won't be elected is a bias that is blatant and disrespectful. In an uncertain electorate, predictions are futile and foolhardy. Grant the candidate the due respect to put his good name and reputation on the line, putting his beliefs into action. That is the respectable thing to do.

I had decided ahead of time to vote for Bridgewater but changed my mind due to the overwhelming amount of annoying phone calls I received from his campaign. In the end, I was disappointed with both candidates decided to jump the party ticket and vote in the democratic race for congress just so I could make sure we had one moderate voice representing Utah. Too bad I don't feel enthusiasm for the Republican choice this time, it might make me inclined to think about jumping party ticket again in Nov. if the democratic choice is moderate enough for me.

Way to go Mike, congrats! Tip of the hat to Tim Bridgewater too. A fine race between two honorable men, in my opinion. I feel Utah will be well represented.

Pollyanna

That is scary to hear people voted based on being annoyed by phone calls.

How do we get a DO NOT CALL list for political candidates? These guys are a plague -- worse than the telemarketers ever were.

I think we've got the better man for the job out of the two. But I'm seriously under impressed. I was hoping for a farmer, mechanic, or military type.

I liked the tea party-ers getting incumbents out of office but now take a we need to take serious look at the two candidates, regardless of party affiliation both seem to be decent men.

As this race gets going for November, DesNews, how about inviting Scott Bradley to the debates? Mike Lee claims to be a "constitutional expert" but he's a dilletante next to Bradley, the Constitution Party candidate.

janforfreedom

I think Bridgwater new about Lee's work with Energy Solutions for quit sometime. But he did not bring it up until the last few day, not leaving Lee anytime to defend or explane his work. I am always leary of last minute mud slinging.

WHAT NOW?

Lee has got it made.

All he has to do is say no.

However, he still has to figure out how to win over 80,000 citizens from the sate of Utah that have no use for him whatsoever or cannot stomach him.

Such is the nature of politics.

Have a happy six years senator.

Yay Mike!
What a close race between these two!
How classy it was for Bridgewater to concede and to ask his volunteers to support Lee.

And I agree it is premature to count out Sam Granato. I'm not making any assumptions, but I will say, "Mike Lee for Senate!"

The Primary election is over. Mike Lee is the GOP candidate for the US Senate. To those who are thinking of jumping the GOP ship and voting Democratic in November, consider this. There are two things to consider in choosing whom to vote for: The candidate himself or herself, and the party of the candidate. The party that has control of Congress decides which bills will make it to the floor. If a Republican or Independent or member of a minor party votes for the Democratic candidate, that vote is for keeping control of Congress with the Democrats. Is that what you really want? I really dislike the party system and think it is one of the evils of our political system. But, that is the system we have. We have to live with that system, and we need to think about this when we choose whom to vote for.

Mike Lee ... a great man and will be a great leader. Proud of you Mike.

Er Jo

Lee ran a dirty campaign backed by outside interest groups, all of which he is beholden to at this point because they moved heaven and earth and were still only barely able to win the campaign for him by going after Bridgewater with lies and distortion.

You fell for it, Utah. We now have a defunct senator who is Jim Demint's lapdog and who won't be looking out for Utah, but rather trying to pay back all the favors done for him by all these outside groups during this campaign.

You get what you pay for. And tonight, we paid for a dirty senator and all we'll get back is dirt in our face.

We've missed out on the classy candidate, Bridgewater, who of course urged his supporters to back Lee now despite all the negative attacks against him because he is that kind of a guy. He would have represented US, not THEM.

So we lose out for the next six years and hopefully we'll have the clarity of mind to get Lee out of the senate then and elect someone who will represent Utah.

I was for Bridgewater early, but told my wife if he kept calling, I'd change my mind. I was jesting, of course, but it was a nuisance.

It's interesting to me to recall that if Bennett had got on the stage and endorsed Bridgewater (as he did eventually do), Bridgewater almost surely would have avoided a primary altogether.

I hate to hand it to Bob Lonsberry, but he called that scenario dead on.

What are we celebrating here?

Nuclear waste in Utah? The firing of a radio talk show host because he dared go against Mike Lee? The victory of outside interest groups? Jim Demint's "army"?

We've lost who we are as Utahn's tonight by electing Mike Lee, a man willing to do whatever he needs to do for political office. I thought these were the guys we were kicking out of office these days.

I'm ashamed to be a Utahn right now.
