I once took a trip. I had some new friends, and they had a new Trans Am. You know, those old Trans Ams don't have that much space in the back. Unforeseen things happened, a new friend said he had money, then claimed he lost his wallet and bummed money off me the whole time, and it was a pretty crappy trip.
I wish that I had gone jeeping in Moab with my old buddies, They came back, had a great time. I told them I was sorry for choosing the other trip over them, it did sound funner, but that was the last time I went with my new friends, and my old friends didn't seem to like me anymore...
OK, never happened...
But just like Karl Malone went to LA to get his ring, Utah fans did not congratulate him, they actually booed him, he felt hurt. He should have earned it here in Utah.
Now Utah moves on to get what BYU has earned already. Utah fans want congratulations. I say "don't let the door hit ya where the good lord slpit ya."
Not even a good luck. Arrogant Utes don't need luck.
What if this isn't true?
" I would have to imagine our fan base is going to grow"
I've watched the Utah fan base. It grows when the team is doing well but as soon as there is a down year, my local DI is full of Ute gear.
If they go in and tank the first two years, it is going to impact recruiting and the fan base.
I can actually envision the fan base SHRINKING.
I hope it isn't true but a lot is riding on these first couple of years.
Boylen's team isn't going to bring in any new fans.
It is all up to the football team.
@chuckie...Now Utah moves on to get what BYU has earned already...
What has BYU earned?
Reputation of "big-time" choke?
A Quest for Perfection that ended with 3 losses?
Or are you thinking about the so-called NC over a 6-5 Michigan team?
Sorry, I feel like to laugh out loud even though I know you and other Kewg fans are hurting...
Ah, Chuckie, spit out the sour grapes, brother. No need to pucker.
Just think how silly all the current whYning will seem a few years from now when BYU is off to the Big 12.
No question both teams [you know which ones I mean] have "earned" better. But, it's not a prize--it's an opportunity. And, BYU will get the same opportunity soon.
Why would BYU want to be part of the Pac 10 when they
aren't really wanted there, for whatever reason?
I have the greatest respect of all BYU is and does.
Jan Jorgenson was right, however, when he said that
there are pathetic "fans" who wear both red and blue.
I hope for the best for BYU and the rivalry.
I hope the Big 12 reconsiders.
BYU deserves it.
Utes are into Big Money... but not net income. With the increase in revenue comes spending a ton of $ on their programs to compete with conference opponents. They're at the bottom in overall budgets. It could be worth it, but it's not easy sailing. Competing with UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal in budgets is impossible. Their funds can hire who they wish. Utah will find the expenses of new coaching contracts alone will eat up their increase in revenues. And that won't guarantee them a top tier program in any sport.
Stadium expansion is a must, but assumes they can get the fans, which they haven't in the past. After the first couple of seasons where they might do ok, they'll be just another PAC 12 program -- that hasn't been impressive the past five years. Once they're having 5 loss seasons, Ute fans once buoyed with euphoria will settle back and not fill current RES.
It's a great step forward for Utah, but, it will be fraught with landmines. Don't count the Rose Bowls before they hatch. As a BCS member, they're now part of the problem.
I am one Cougar fan who says good luck Utah. Putting down the Ute’s IS sour grapes and does nothing to help BYU. If BYU had received an offer, you know we would have accepted and many of our fans would be rubbing it in. I hope Utah does do well in the PAC-10, then when the Cougars (sometimes) beat the Ute’s it will only help our program.
Continue to do us all proud Utah.
Loved Harmon's statement on ESPN tv that BYU was passed over because they're Mormon.
More money = more losses and fewer BCS appearances. Utah got what they wanted, I guess. No more pressure to win anything.
I hope Utah can succeed, but it certainly looks dreary.
With all that money the can expand their stadium to 65,000. Then on the best of best home games it will be half full.
Max-was-right. I wonder is Maxine cried himself to sleep last night. "But we're supposed to be the chosen ones not them. We have more class not them. We deserve the invite not them. We live better on and off the field. We're better people than they are. Why didn't we get invited? It must be just because the Pac-10 hates Mormons. Yeah, that's it, let's go with that." Karma rules!
Fiscal resposibility...
