Too bad all of those 3-5 pound trout are now used as fertilizer. There's gotta be a way to do this without removing some if those trophy trout...
I applaud the DWR for using science to improve our fishing. The slot limit at Strawberry, the stocking of sterile fish such as wipers and tiger muskies, the increased attention to smallmouths, the removal of limits on Powell stripers -- all are welcome changes that show the DWR is open to new ideas. Way to go, DWR!
Now let's try something new in Utah Lake. My suggestion: Plant wipers and tiger muskies. Get those puppies eating all the baby carp.
By the way, when you start letting people catch tiger muskies again, how about upping the minimum size to 45 inches. A 40-incher is only half grown.
I hope they are making good use of the crawfish that are being caught. If anybody needs a good boiling receipe I have one.
Is it pretty easy to catch crawfish in Strawberry? Never tried but thought it would be fun.
I think they empty the stomachs of the fish without killing them. If not, I'm sure they take them back to the office & cook them up. Mmmmmmmm ;-)
Easy to catch and fun! We used fashioned our own trap and then let the kids use hot dogs on a fishing pole to get them into the dock and a net. What a blast! We had hundreds in an hour an a half. Great recipes and an easy method to prepare the bodies can be found on-line. Make sure you have a license.
Are there better places to fish for crawfish in the lake?
