Sorry, but no BYU fan wants USU in their conference. I don't know why you say that. USU brings absolutely nothing to the MWC. Their academics are poor, not nationally ranked in any major program (neither is BSU) and their only good sport is mens bball, but even that is average comparatively nationally.

This BYU fan is usually pretty sportsmanlike, but I don't want a team in our conference who is so full of hate for BYU to be in our conference. Get over your hate, then maybe we'll start caring about USU.

hedgehog

Utes can discuss USC
BYU can discus USU

Bwahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!

Time to replace Utah. Do I hear FRESNO STATE! California TV market and a team that has been competitive with Pac 10 schools including USC while they were breaking the rules in Football and basketball. Hum?

CKS007

With the rivalries with BYU, BSU, Wyoming, UNLV and more I'd love to see Utah State in the Mountain West. However I'd hate to be stuck in that bad TV contract. How about we just blow up the two conferences and start from scratch?

ProvoAggie

@RR: I'm guessing that means you are glad that Utah is gone. They hated BYU even more than USU does...and don't think that BYU doesn't return that hate. It's part of being in a rivalry. I know that the BYU/USU rivalry is pretty one sided right now but it would be nice to add the other side to it.

patriot

maybe the MWC could add Snow College and College of Eastern Utah as well!!

RR:

My wife went to BYU and transferred to USU. She felt that she had a better academic experience at USU.

USU ranked first among all universities in the U.S. in funding for aerospace research.

USU's Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report in the top 2% of prestigious graduate schools of education in the U.S. for the past decade.

USU is home to more Carnegie Professors of the Year than any other school in Utah, and boasts nine of the last 15 for the state.

The Huntsman School of Accountancy is distinguished by perennial Top 5 rankings in CPA exam scores by its grad students.

Rankings:

Forbes:
USU 191
BYU 249

WM National University:
USU 27
BYU 68

RR: You say "their only good sport is mens [sic] bball,[sic] but even that is average comparatively [sic] nationally.

Last basketball meeting:

USU 71
BYU 61

I'm not sure where your parochial generalizations come from about USU being a team "who [sic] is so full of hate for BYU." You may want to avoid generalizations in the future.

RE: RR
As a USU grad, if my education was so poor, how come I make so much money from It?

So-CalAggie

what? NO way, as long as byu is in the MWC, there will be NO WAY IN HE!! USU gets invited to the MWC. Geographically it makes sense, but thats where it ends. Not that I wouldn't mind, I'm just realistic.

Y Grad / Y Dad

You add teams you think will improve the conference. Now Houston...

RE: RR
The engineering and science departments at BYU are considered a joke up here in Logan, in addition to all of the stuff already mentioned. The football team needs work, but all other sports would be competitive enough.

Sorry Aggies. It'll be pretty hard playing BYU if they have to spend a non-conference game each year on Utah. Good luck in playing the Y in football regularly. Might as well schedule Weber if you want a rivalry game every year.

Rodgers

It was nice to see Utah leaving. That leaves Y being denied like Y has denied USU all of these years from the seventies trying to gain equal footing within the conference. Having grown up with all of the Y hate and self righteous attitude towards USU, it is nice to see a little pay back from the real "Big" guys.

USU's academics and programs are well acclaimed nationally, as noted above. Their football program is not. Their other athletic programs are decent to good, with men's basketball being the pinnacle. However, I don't see an invite coming for USU to join the Mountain West. They would be better served at this point to continue in the WAC until their football program has improved enough to handle moving up a level. This isn't out of the question, as they could earn a bowl berth this year and improve from there to the top half of the WAC over the next 4-5 years.

If the Mountain West does invite someone, it should be Fresno State. They have the best football resume, they are geographically close, and are familiar with several MWC schools from the pre-1998 WAC. A second choice would be SMU, with it's Texas ties, could make a travel partner for TCU. However, SMU has only recently begun rising from the ashes of it's football death in 1989, and might end up near the bottom of the MWC, while Fresno would strengthen the middle of the conference, helping lead to BCS consideration.

Oh RR, its not hate! Whats to hate about fans like you who supply such RIDICULOUSly funny comments! We make fun of you - its true; but it isn't hate.

Bugoff

The MTN needs to go get UH. That gives them TV coverage in both Dallas and Houston and helps on recruiting. UH is an improvement over Utah.

Utah can't raid USC now but BYU could get a couple of players to transfer.

With a new QB and RB BYU needs to beef up it's defense. It needs to anyway.

The PAC 10 is weak and there is no reason for it to get stronger. Utah will do okay. BYU needs to take care of its own business. If they can keep winning they will have no trouble getting recruits.

As long as BYU can get enough talent to beat BSU and TCU (better teams than Utah) then BYU will be in the top 10.

RSL1

Dont add anyone! We have BSU to replace Utah. No more! There is no reason to add anyone else. The smaller the conference the better. Does everyone remember the horrible WAC decision to go to 16 teams. That was terrible!

RR

Sorry guys, but your attempts to convince me of USU's academic status won't work. When I was searching graduate schools, UVSC and USU came in the top 100 in one category....acceptance rate. One was 100% and the other was 99%. That means practically anyone can be admitted to the school with any GPA. I don't know if that has changed in the last 4 years since I saw that, but it doesn't say much about the competitiveness of either school. I could name at least 10 people who said USU was easier than high school. I'm sure they are decent in some areas, but you'll never see U.S. News/World Report come out with top ranking for major programs. BYU is exceptional at business and Utah is great at medicine. Aggie2010, not all schools are great at everything. Utah has a bad engineering program too, and BYU has a bad nursing program. At least BYU/Utah have nationally recognized programs year after year. Always winning championships just adds to that recognition. USU does not have that, so to say BYU wants USU is just a USU biased opinion.

G-Swenz

With teams like the prestigious Wyoming Cowboys and the mighty San Diego St. Aztecs, how dare we dream of USU in the MWC!

Regardless of conference, chances are the Aggies will beat BYU and Utah in hoops next year, and beat the afore mentioned Aztecs on their home turf in football as we continue to improve under Coach A.

To Cougar fans especially: Keep calling us a JC program, and we'll keep ruining your RPI everytime you show up in Logan!

ProvoAggie

RR: When you were searching graduate schools, why was UVSC coming up in your search? Unless you were searching undergrad programs. It wasn't until this last year that UVU started their graduate programs. It is true that UVU will accept anyone into their undergrad programs but once you are in, you have to prove yourself or you will be gone within a semester. It's quite a bit more difficult to get into a grad program their though. In order to do that you must prove yourself and then a small percentage get's in. USU is the same. They'll give anyone a chance for their undergrad programs but you need to prove yourself once your in and then prove yourself to get into a grad program.
