Sorry, I don't buy into your argument, I believe in forgiveness but they also have a price to pay for their misdeed. I would not forgive myself if they re-offended because they got a slap on the hand because I didn't believe in punishment, especially for gang bangers, drunk drivers, rapist and domestic violence. We live in a world of consequences for all deeds good & bad.
BBLVR is correct. Public safety requires that dangerous people be locked up. Nothing about the concept of forgiveness requires us to endanger ourselves or the public. Indeed, if this writer wants to invoke the doctrine of the LDS Churfh, she should be aware that Dallin H. Oakes has stated that we are required to make judgments that will protect our families.
