Thanks for a great inspiring story. What a brave young man who has gone through something few of us have to experience. I'm happy that he has recovered and is looking forward to a wonderful life.
I would like to know why the murderer only got 38 years in prison. It sounds like there was a long trial and I can imagine there were many obstacles to convict the murderer. Nevertheless, if he did not take a pleas bargain, and he was found guilty, it seems like his sentences is light for murder one and another attempted murder. Can anyone who followed this story at the time shed more light on the matter for me?
Chad, Good question. I'm just guessing (not a lawyer), but maybe because it wasn't pre-meditated murder but a quick decision to get rid of a witness or two.
Best wishes to Josh and Cam. He's obviously made some great character building decisions that will help him for the rest of his life if he keeps making good choices. As opposed to the fellow who killed Elder Young.
My heart goes out to Elder Young's parents and family. Very tough on them. I'm sure that they have found comfort and wish them solace the rest of their lives.
not a good idea to say something like, "hey man we didn't see anything," as if to paint a target on your chest reminding guy with a gun you might be a witness to something, glad this young man could forgive, and move on, he has his priorities right, and I hope he has opportunities to share that with others, great article, thanks to DesNews.
Great story of courage, guts and determination...Josh Heidbrink honored his companion by finishing his mission despite his gun shots wound...the guy is a Latter-day hero!
Mark and Kathy Young are heroes too. They have raised great children...all of them have served missions including some who served after their brother was shot and killed on a mission.
Though they miss their son every day, as mentioned in the article, they remain happy people. They are amazing.
Every day young missionaries go into places they shouldn't be in an effort to bring religion to people. They are young enough and brash enough to get away with it most of the time. Sometimes the odds just become too great. I feel sorry for the families and the young men.
