Nancy Drew was (and is) a good role model for teenage girls -- showing us that we didn't have to stay home, and cook and clean, but that we were fully able to be independent and accomplished, despite the fact that we are female, and stand in our own right without having to be validated by a male. For a girl growing up in the 50s and 60s (like I did), especially ln light of the messages coming from the sit-coms of the era, that was a very necessary message.
