Hurrah for the Roy girls, as an alumni of RHS, I am so proud of them...I am equally concerned at the lack of athletic success for the boys teams, if the girls can succeed at such a high degree in 5A, why are the boys teams, ie, bb, football, always so horrible? Hope the girls inspire more excellence from the royals in the future.

You smoking something or just clueless? Born yesterday? Been living out of the country?

What's up

DRay

You can't be the only one in the state who doesn't know how come the Roy's Girls Softball team is sooooo good the rest of Roy's programs are so pathetic, go back to sleep.

Davis-county-man

wow DRay

Are you really Jay Leno masquerading as DRay?

Nice job Royals, you your thunder is being heard around the state.. three or fou more and you ARE the Champs...it's between you and Bingahm.

Titan guy

Those of us in Roy's region are pulling for them, they represent each of our schools, it's like having a member of each of the other teams there with Roy and we feel we have a part in this run for the championship... go Roy bring it home for all of US.

Commissioner

Your right about some of the other prgrams needing some help at Roy... but it makes ya wnat to transfer your daughter to Roy is she was good and played softball, that's the place, but if she were a multi-sport palyer you'd have to suffer through the others sports. maybe the other caoches can do what you suggested, figure out how the softball team is doing it and do the same.. win - win.. go Royals

people, it is not too hard to figure out. One word: pitching.

game on

Recruiting would be my one word

Amen to "game on"

"game on"... The Truth! And pitching.

We are so proud of the entire team and so thankful for the incredible coaching. These girls have earned their chance at a state championship with incredible work ethic, as well as a great relationship with one another as respected players AND friendships.
GO ROY!

RE: "royroyroy" & "Roy Fan"

royroyroy: and for sure great pitching, never take anything away from Macauley, she's for real!

Roy Fan: I can honestly say Roy (Flint) outcoached the other teams near the top of the region.. he hits the ball, doesn't beg for errors while slapping and bunting, doesn't play for one run and then lose by one run like the others at the top. He doesn't play the small ball, which is on its way out thanks to great coaching like Alabama's Coach Murphy and other hitting coaches who are winning. They don't need to win by one run when they can score 6-7 runs by hitting away, the beggars are on their way out..

Commissioner, You are right on about the coaching. I have submitted 3 other comments that I don't feel break the rules, but apparently the moderator thinks so. All I can say is that the players are not only legitimate to play, bbut they are handling all of the critisism with grace and honor. They have NO reason to buy into all of the garbage out there. They will be taking state!
Go Roy!

With Roy's pitcher dominating high school play - it's not really about begging for runs. The style of play (small ball/long ball) evolves continually - it always has. I wouldn't call bunting or slapping "begging" for errors. But forcing kids to slap left-handed because they are fast, or bunting when you're down several runs is stupid. And I've witnessed plenty of that type play over the last few years. A bunt here and there can be a very effective tool - and many championships have been won by one run. Winning by one run is still winning. Whether the players are legitimate or not is really not the question - it's the pitching that has this Roy team on fire. The championship is theirs' to lose.

Titan guy

Commissioners' right,

Point is, if you're slapping for one run to win, then slap or bunt to advance the winning run, if you're slapping just to slap every time at the plate and never getting on is poor coaching. Converting a right hander to slap for eight weeks and have a batting average of less than .200 is doing the kids an injustice. I don't care what they say in defense of slapping, if you can do it with a good batting average, then do it… if not, DON'T, this game is all about stats and averages and numbers and if your production goes down when slapping or bunting you don't have to be a rocket scientist's to know your worse off!!! I'm not saying don't bunt or don't slap, just don't de it EVERY TIME at the plate! Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.". I go to the games twice a week and see the same players slap and get out every time….all year long….boring! You can't defend that!

Commissioner

no doubt about Roy's pitching, it's great and they can hit, great also... but if Roy can produce 3 or 4 runs the other team better learn to hit the ball cause slapping four consecutive times to produce one run isn't going t happen.. then do that four innings in a roll because you down 4 runs and that isn't going to happen, especially if the defense knows what you going to do.. you're better off having a right hander bunt with the element of surprise on their side….as soon as you have her on the left side the corners mover in three steps and your two step advantage is gone… her her right handed and the corners move back three steps and the batter is better is just as well off. The good college coaches are now doing that, moving away from slapping and are hitting line drive now. Good high school coaches are too.

Commissioner and Titan Guy are both right.. both should be coaching high school and would be good.

Rec ball coaches or those learning the game as they coach their daughters will always do what they see done on TV because they know no difference and have never played the game so they do exactly what they see done and haven't a clue what is right or wrong. It's like a football team using the same offense year after year regardless of the talent that comes and goes. Good coaches set their offense based on their talents, throw with a great QB's, run with a fast or power full back, but adjust to what talents you have. Softball coaches think you need to do what everyone else is doing, wrong. Go find someone who has actually played the game, fast pitch, not church slo-pitch and asked them to help you teach your kids how to hit the ball. Don't buy books, DVD's or watch sports central or college game of the week and take notes.

it really is begging, because the only way you'll get on if everyone knows you're slapping is if they make an error, at least in high school with average speed vs. college, with world class speed. just teach them to hit the hit for extra bases and advance the runners, don't rely on the defense making an error. Stat-wise getting on via an error is the same as getting out; it hurts your batting average. Most parents and spectators don't' realize that. They think it's a hit if they reach first base, wrong!! If it's a sacrifice, it doesn't help or hurt your batting average. If it's a walk it doesn’t help or hurt your batting average, it does however help your OB%, which reaching base on an error doesn't help your batting average nor your OB%. Reaching base on an error is treated the same as if you made an out.

softball mom

great advise,

Now I'll be watching how many of the girls do the same thing every time at the plate and see what adjustments the defense makes. I'm actually learning something. I'll also watch which hitters are getting on via hits or errors (someone else's mistakes). I can probably figure out which are the better coaches too. My daughter is excited to play summer comp ball again, she seems to enjoy it much more and she really likes her coach, thinks he's knows his stuff, but then he was a great fast pitch player too so they really can relate. He gets her for the next 44 weeks, then school ball begins again, new crop, new year.
