Well as long as the majority think it's a great idea we can just ignore the 4th amendment for latinos.
Which other amendments to you want to talk about?
Congress can't decide where our civil rights start or end. It's okay for the CIA, NSA, and FBI, and local police to secretly invade our privacy with wire taps on phones, computers, and cell phones but we can't do anything to rid this country of illegal foreign nationals looting and pilfering and killing americans.
Who's civil rights are being violated? The illegal aliens? They don't have any rights, except under the Geneva Convention Act, if we still had that law on the books. I think all illegal aliens should be turned over to the military to process and deport, including their anchors and illegal family members. We don't need illegals abandoning their children or be accused of breaking up families who are all illegal.
You really cannot stand idly by while the Executive Branch ignores its duty to enforce the immigration laws on the books.
This has gone on for decades and has resulted in ONE THIRD of all foreign-born residents being here illegally.
Kudos to AZ for standing tall and shining a light on this gross federal negligence.
Perhaps we can have the police go house to house and verify that everyone is legal. If your here illegally then your sent home and explained to how to come here legally.
Or they can set it up so when people show up to a hospital you'll need to prove that your here legally. Same with a drivers license, home loan, business loan, car loan.
Another way is everytime you purchase a new vehicle and you go in to register it, you'll need to prove that your here legally and have car insurance. That would save alot of headache and issues when there is an accident.
So where are all the Utah haters?
The approval of this law would be even higher if certain people weren't speaking untruths about what the law entails. (particularly in the mass media) It is amazing to me that people (most with an agenda) are upset that an officer of the law can ask for identification if they suspect the person is here illegally. I am asked for my identification if an officer pulls me over to tell me my tail light is out. Explain why they should not do that if the person can't speak english and appears to perhaps not be native to this country? Seems like a double standard - unfair to citizens.
Time for the American people to step up!
If the feds won't do their job then each state will pass a similar bill until our laws our being followed.
It is no surprise that this would be approved by such a large majority.
We are sick and tired of the illegals marching and making demands.
They are their own worst enemies.
Arizona law mirrors the Federal law... the only difference is Federal officials ignore the law and plan to continue to ignore the laws. I would be happy to provide my papers of citizenship every time I am pulled over for a traffic stop... and I think EVERYONE should be prepared. After all, that is exactly what one has to do in Mexico. Why is it so horrible that The United States cannot have the same laws enforced in our country? Our imimigration laws are much more lenient than Mexico's.... they racially profile their legal aliens.... assign location to live... we are not doign anything to that degree... but Arizona is the Bad guy. Boycotts serve to prove the nation's ignorance... the reality is stay legally or don't stay!
This proves how out of touch the media is with the people.
Screwdriver, what specific part of it violates the 4th amendment? It's identical to Federal law that from 1996.
I've ask that question before to the pro-illegal group, but never received an answer.
Screwdriver: "Well as long as the majority think it's a great idea we can just ignore the 4th amendment for latinos."
Are you serious? Have you read SB1070? If you have, you apparently don't understand that it MIRRORS Federal law already in place but not being enforced. The law specifically prohibits racial profiling.
So can we stop repeating the liberal media's "talking points" and focus on the facts please?
Fact: Phoenix AZ is #2 in world for kidnapping. Illegal aliens are involved in 90 of these.
Fact: Mexico's drug war is spilling into border states like AZ.
AZ's SB1070 does the following:
1) Makes it illegal in Arizona for an alien to not register with the government, thus being an "illegal alien" (already a FEDERAL LAW. See 8 USC 1306a; USC 1304e)
2) Allows police to detain people where there is a "reasonable suspicion" that they're illegal aliens only AFTER they have been detained for another crime. (see the recent court case Estrada v. Rhode Island for an idea of what "reasonable suspicion" might entail)
3)Prohibits sanctuary cities (already prohibited at the federal level, 8 USC 1373)
Kanuck,
don't try to confuse liberals with the facts
Dry up the benefits of illegally entering the country and it stops, except for the terrorists. I propose a fine of $50,000. and five years in prison for any employer who hires an illegal, on each count. We can't find them? Then how about a reward of $10,000. for information leading to the arrest and conviction of employers?
'Utahns appear to be in line with a strong majority of Americans who support Arizona's controversial new immigration law and would back similar laws in their own states, a new McClatchy-Ipsos poll found.' - Article
Of course it does. Utah is known for being a Hate state.
Last to get rid of Polygamy
Against Inter racial marriage
Prop 8
Questioning legal status based on appearence only
Maybe one day Utah will be known for something it can be proud of.
'Kanuck,
don't try to confuse liberals with the facts'
Lost in DC, did you present any facts?
I'm sure liberals love the idea that you think they don't ever have facts. I guess the line of 'Any comments found to be abusive, offensive (sic) will not be posted.' was a lie then?
Should we go over what a super majority and reconciliation is again?
Go back to watching Faux news.
Illegal immigration, amnesty, welfare, perpetual dependency on government, voting rights.
Pretty simple plan to keep liberals in power.
"The poll results also illustrate the uphill battle that immigrants' rights activists face in pushing Congress to pass legislation that would pair tougher border enforcement – which is universally popular – with a path to citizenship for immigrants who are here now illegally."
This paragraph is complete nonsense and full of bias. This entire article is based on what? Poll results. Well, any reporter worth more than a penny would know that Pew did a poll just last month about immigration and the results showed that the majority (59%) FAVOR the possibility of citizenship for those already here illegally.
Comprehensive immigration reform, inlcuding a path to citizenship, should be a no-brainer politically. The problem isn't public opinion; the problem is the "party of 'No!'"
While I completely agree with what Arizona has done, my only concern is what constitutes valid documentation? I mean, in the state of Utah, we give drivers licenses to illegals, so that can't be valid form of identification. Would I have to start carrying a copy of my birth certificate around? Who knows, with my blond hair and blue eyes, I could be an illegal alien from the UK or Scandanavia.
Wow. I have a hard time believing that 7 in 10 of my neighbors *really* wouldn't mind police officers randomly harassing them to ask for legal papers!
I imagine what is really happening there is that poll respondents are sure that this law really won't affect them personally. (It would also be unlikely to affect me since my heritage is Western European.) So what they are *really* saying is "I've bought into irrational hate and fearmongering about certain races *so much* that I support the police targeting and harassing those groups in a completely un-American way"
Sad, sad turn of events.
Wake up Utah! Please.
