It is a tough world out there for non-profits. It was before the recession and it is worse now. A few years ago I was a program director for a major Utah Non-profit and had millions in grants but even so the demand was much greater than the donations and grants. I reconfigured the program and budgets to maximize our resources. With a little creative leadership we were able to meet our mission.
My son-in-law heads a small non-profit and no one is paid. All volunteers. He is creative in raising money but still is not able to meet the community need. I now head a small non-profit association. Again, it is all volunteer but we do sell a few things to earn money and we depend on donations for the rest. I am blessed that I make enough from a paying job and my business that I am able to contribute to the non-profits above so that they can do more.
Bottom line: If you can help out with either time or money contribute something. Every little bit helps.
