I've found that some female sports are actually better than their male counterparts. Volleyball and soccer for example are both more or at least as enjoyable to watch as their male counterparts. I do hope that everyone stops trying to force women's basketball down our throats though. Playing with the smaller ball and the same height hoop makes that game virtually unwatchable which is saying something because I watch local H.S. hoops on Comcast on Demand.

You're right on... watching men play volleyball, just seems wrong, not at all enjoyable. Women volleyball, now that's fun. Also watched ladies high school soccer and was actually fun but to watch the boys seem a bit feminine as opposed to rugby, football or other manly sports. It's as if they were too uncoordinated to use their arms and hands and by eliminating them, it eliminated the competition. Softball in high school would be another one I wouldn't like to see the boys play instead of their baseball. Others, synchronized swimming is on that list along with gymnastics. I know some men do them all but doesn't get the rest of us excited. Not many American born men play adult soccer, they seem to outgrow it.. thank goodness.
You are kidding me right? What mens soccer games have you two watched? The women goalies can hardly save a shot that goes anywhere within 3 inches of the crossbar! The mens game is powerful, and faster than any other game out there. Have you ever heard of jamison olave?
Also i would like to point out that there are more males soccer players in this country over the age of 12 than play football at any age. The reason people "outgrow" it is because when men get older they put on a little bit of weight and look like complete idiots trying to play.
This coming from an all state safety who won a championship at alta high school.
I hope the WPS survives for the athletes sake but it's nothing compared to watching the mens world cup or the EPL..
I like to see a little scoring and you get it from the women...if you don't like to see teams score, make the hoop in basketball 40% smaller and watch the two teams run up and down the court 40 minutes (oh, and hide the clock so only the official know how much time is left) then see how many people will watch a 6 to 8 point game of basketball. Men gain weight regardless of what sport they continue to play, it's just they eventually learn how to use their arms, hands and finger so no longer have a need to play soccer anymore. Bet ya didn't play football? Might need soccer so the less coordinated boys have something to play in-between football, basketball and baseball? The spectators (I mean parents) bring their own lawn chairs, ever see that in football, basketball or even baseball?
Little Robbie,
Saying you were all-state soccer is like saying you were all-state volleyball. Not a big deal. Soccer is a great sport up to about 10-12 years old then it's time to start playing real sports. Great exercise for the little ones and everyone can play the game for sure... but boring as can be and all ya have to do is run up and down the field. Don't swing, don't bat, don't shoot, and don't hit each other, usually just stand in one area. Imagine basketball having only 1/2 their payers crossing the mid-court line, or only playing defense?
Well first off your right i was an all state soccer player. But i clearly said in my last post that i was an all state SAFETY who played for Alta High school.. There are no safeties in soccer.. Why don't you try actually reading my post all the way through before you run your mouth off.
I can tell you from first hand experience that soccer is not made for just any athlete!
Softball mom your right all men put on weight as they get older. That was exactly my point, most men do not have the agility or coordination to play the sport after they put on a little more fat. I'm no exception i am not nearly the athlete now that i was in H.S.
Sorry Robbie
You might want to click on the boy's soccer tab where your support group hangs out. These ladies have your number, they know what real men do, say, play and look like. You're not changing any minds here. Maybe in Mexico or South American where they really only have bull fighting and soccer, but here, there are way too much stuff going on, and they haven't mention dirt bike riding or other masculine sports. Stick with soccer and that swimming stuff the one lady mentioned.
Know it all
Apparently you don't know how to read either. I said i was a SAFETY in highschool. Do you know what that is?
Do you really think that the entire world got this one wrong? I mean really is everyone in the entire world (besides Americans) just ignorant idiots who dont know a thing about anything to you? Soccer is the most watched and played sport in the world. 1 billion people watched the opening game alone of the last world cup. 3 out of the top 5 most valuable sporting franchises in the world are soccer teams. Manchester united being the most valuable team in all of sports.
Do you really think 1 billion have it wrong?
give the sport a chance, everyone i have ever taken to an RSL game was impressed about how fun it was to watch.
game on
last I checked a real man wasn't based on what sports he likes. Even if that had anything to do with it i will say it again. I PLAYED FOOTBALL AND WAS A SAFETY! You aren't getting it. I'm lovin these personal insults. Little Robbie, and not a real man! You know people have no logic behind their arguments when they resort to personal insults..
Robbie, your wrong.....
I do think they got it wrong, they have nothing else going for them but soccer, no football stadiums, not baseball stadiums, they have a blanket to sit and watch their little kids run around. Most these countries are third world countries so they play what they can afford and are doing well at it, it just isn't for the USA. To watch for 2 hours and see a 1-0 match, really, not even you can find that enjoyable. It's worse than watching paint dry. Here in the good old USA we have so many things to do and see who in the world wants to waste an evening watching soccer? Do you really care what other countries do with their spear time; do they have ATV's, boats, dirt bikes, razors, sports courts, tennis courts, swimming pools, RV's millions of restaurants, mega-plex theaters, and ten million other things to do, or JUST WATCH SOCCER? If they can afford bull fighting that’s where they hang out, if not its soccer, but why would any American care. It just isn't American.
Couple of things. First, I'm not a woman. Second, I'm very familiar with soccer and volleyball as played by both men and women. Why am I familiar? What are my credentials? I played soccer in High School just like Rob did. Sure he played at Alta and I played in New Jersey but it was the same sport. I currently play a lot of volleyball. Whether I played the sport or not is not relevant. I prefer watching women play soccer as compared to men because the women are not as fast and powerful. The result is a much more watchable sport. The same goes for women's volleyball. International soccer and international volleyball on the men's side is very difficult to watch and enjoy. It is nearly impossible to tell what is going on. The female game is much more watchable.
Rob, you are too focused on your defense of soccer. In that way you are like most soccer fans in the US. You are so busy trying to cram the sport down people's throats that you can't see why it isn't enjoyed. Some sports are better played by women. Soccer and volleyball.
ROB
Sorry if I started something, it just isn't for me. I love watching my girls (especially the little ones) play soccer and volleyball and watching men or boys play the same games just doesn't excite me. I do love football and it sounds like you were really good at that. I love to watch my boy (anyone's boys) play baseball in the summer, football in the fall, and basketball in the winter. I've just never got use to watching the boys do these other sports, and if I were from South American I'd eat different foods, live in different home (especially size), I may not have electricity all the time, running water or indoor plumbing and maybe my favorite sport would be soccer, for both sexes. But sorry, I'm from here and have grown up loving what the USA has and not caring what other countries have to do to entertain themselves. I personally don't want to take up a sport because it's popular in the other country. It's popular there and not here for a very good reason, we have so many choices.
Outraged
First off a soccer game takes about half as long as basketball, football, and like 1/4 of the amount of time as baseball. I can't believe you think baseball is at all entertaining. That is actually like watching paint dry!
You are wrong about a lot of things you just said. The most popular sport in westernized not 3rd world countries is soccer. Soccer did not start in a 3rd world country it started in england, spread through europe and eventually became the most popular sport in the 3rd world countries as well. Like i said in one of my previous posts soccer has more money in it than any other sport in the world. Man U. is the most valuable sports franchise in the world.. How does a team get so valuable? with money. Don't think these high rollers in europe have boats ATV's Horses and a heck of a lot of free time? Oh they do and yet they still love the game.
I get the impression that you don't think i like american sports. I'm a big jazz fan and an even bigger Cougar Football Fan.
CaseyA
I understand that you think that but i just disagree. I love watching soccer, it's my 2nd favorite sport to watch besides football. The game just has a flow to it and that's why it's called the beautiful game. After watching soccer i get frusterated with all the stops, timeouts, commercial breaks, official timeouts ect. Soccer is the most pure sport out there and thats why i love it.
Thanks CaseyA
Soccer is much easier to watch when women are playing, it's slower for sure and there is actually scoring and you can see the game developing and it's ok. Same with volleyball (not to mention their attire). Tennis in some regards is more enjoyable to watch women cause the rallies are longer and some really good gets as appose to the men's 128 mph serves and two hits and out. ROB, had you simply said you played football and enjoy both it would have lead to some creditability. You might have even look upon as a star or past great athletic.
Softball Mom
Your right we do have so many choices. I for some reason really took to soccer and football when i was younger and it just stuck with me. I do find it a little bit stereotypical that you think only hispanic 3rd world countries like soccer. Europe is mainly not hispanic and largely westernized just like the good ole USA. They have many options also like Rugby, basketball, and an increasingly popular american football. But they choose soccer and i think if more americans would just give soccer a chance they would really enjoy it.
Gee, if i were the only one I'd feel bad but there seems to be several other trying to make their points, and i don't think any of the others are going to be converted to spectators, participants, or supporters. I for one could care less what Europeans (could care less about those people) and third world countries do in their spear time. I refuse to be bored watching sports. Softball for the ladies and baseball for the men… it's still a great American pastime, not every day or even every week but a hot dog with the kids at the park doesn't get any better. Football at Levell Edwards stadium doesn't get any better (well maybe the U) jk. Europe? They have no idea what they're missing, nor do the third world countries and they never will, unless they come here and God knows there are millions trying to sneak into the USA, for what? Either to get away from soccer or enjoy those things we enjoy.
Know it all man you are really pathetic, you really would watch a womens volleyball game because the girls wear short shorts? Give me a break you just lost all credibility. Also do you really think i care that you dont find me credible? I dont.
@Outraged
I'm not telling you to care about what other people think. All i'm saying is soccer is a popular sport for a reason. Not because everyone who likes soccer is ignorant to what good sports are really like. If that were the case then there wouldn't be people like me who grew up on sandy's east bench. Or the 17,000 a game who go to watch a semi pro soccer league the MLS. More and more americans are catching on, maybe your kids will but until then i think it is you who doesn't know what they are missing.
