I wonder if people were as up in arms about loosing Richards Street in the 1970s as they were about lossing Main Street in the 1990s?
Will these walkways be private or public property? If they are public property they will soon become panhandler gauntlets that people will go out of their way to avoid traversing. If they are private, they will be policed by private security according to private property rules. While this will make them bum free, it will also cause any speech, dress, or displays of affection the property owners don't care for to be supressed.
Wouldn't it be great if we abandoned the recent ridiculous notions that panhandling and loitering were civil rights, and returned real public places back to places where the non panhandling public that pays for them could also enjoy them?
