I played for Hunter High School with Matt for 3 years and during the state championship year with Tauni, Ron, Shawn, and Matt. To see all of them at the next level is awesome. It shows what an awesome team that 2003 champs were. University of Utah is turning into Hunter High School....just kidding. Its nice to see all of them being successful. Lets take home the MWC championship this year Utes, and possibly a run for the BCS. We can do it.

It’s funny how Kewgar fans are now only talking smack about the Utes but keeping very, very quite about their own teams prognosis. It’s understandable; we all see the “train wreck” of a season coming for YBU. It’s best to divert attention away from what may be the worst BYU team in many, many years.

As far as Utah? MWC championship and BCS is the expectations. And guess what, 2011 only looks better.

Sleep well Cougars.

re: BlueCoug

Utah had a "rebuilding" year last season, and finished 10-3 with a very tough schedule. Losses by 7 @ Pac-10 champ Oregon, and in overtime @ top 15 BYU.

We'll see if BYU's "rebuilding" year having to replace the same positions Utah did last year will be even close to as successful. My guess after Friday is it will not be. @ Utah, TCU, FSU. Home to Washington. If BYU wins 1 of those games I'll be very surprised.

Yeah, and BYU has a rebuilding season every year, so what is your point, the UTES don't play for the LAS VEGAS BOWL every year. They [UTES] strive for something better, just like BOISE ST., until BYU even playes in a BCS BOWl GAME, hold on to that "magical" '84 season when BYU beat 6-5 Michigan for an *NC. Why do you Cougar fans even try, such a pathetic attempt.

y be good when U CAN BE GREAT!

I love bluezoob's logic, they must be the only ones getting experience this year....
Keep in mind tds only wins some of the games that they are supposed to against the Utes, please tell me when the last time was that Utah lost to tds when Utah was favored and I believe they will be favored this year!

Hey Hedge,
What do you expect when you has 4-5 O-linemen, two 1000 yard rushers, two experienced QBs, a full D-line and a starting safety and corner returning. When the Utes have all that returning and only a few injured and yet the tds has 4 Linemen (if that, can't even play a scrimmage), a couple receivers (yet their main receiver is gone) from the offense and a safety and corner from the defense that isn't hurt there is not much to be happy about.

re: THEeyepatch

Not really sure what you're talking about, but you need to re-read my posts.

Just pointing out the fact that during Utah's supposed "rebuilding" year we still won 10 games. Utah has started to reload, not rebuild.

What are you talking about?

BYU has finished in the Top 25 SEVENTEEN of the past 33 years (52%) -- for all of U historians, that's a third of a century.

The only decade in Utah history where the Utes finished in the Top 25 more than once was the 2000's, when the Utes finished in the Top 25 FOUR of the 10 years (40%).

Get back to us Utes when you manage to finish in the Top 25 at least 50% of the time for a single decade.

RE: Sportsfan,

I always know when a BYU fan is starting to feel insecure - they pull out some long winded presentation about winning the games their suppose to but not mentioning the epic collapse that happens ever year.

Being that it's a reloading year (TDS never rebuilds) I wonder if BYU can match Utahs 10-3 "rebuilding" year....

Don't lie, remeber you have an "honor" code

Been there, done that hedgehog:

replaces John Beck, Jonny Harline and Curtis Brown

with Max Hall, Dennis Pitta and Harvey Unga

BYU 2007 11-2, undefeated MWC championship, 14/15 final polls

Usually read all the articles relating to BYU and Ute football. The Ute fans piously dog the Cougar fans for talking about BCS games in the spring and summer. I think in this article no less than 5 Ute fans talked about going BCS. Please remember this Ute fan when you are tempted to blow up Cougar fans for talking about BCS before the season starts. Good luck to all the teams in the state.

I've never made fun of them for saying that.... I've made fun of them for making (bronco approved) t-shirts about it before the season started

Now back to the article about UTAH FOOTBALL....

Utah will be strong in the trenches on both sides of the ball with tons of depth. Skill positions are coming around with lots of talent at WR and RB. QBs are excellent and the defense is always tough. If the secondary and linebackers keep improving we will have a terrific season!

I look forward to playing our main rival TCU. We have a score to settle and they will probably be the toughest game on our schedule.

Thanks Coach Whitt for the fantastic recruiting! The incoming recruits are rated the top non BCS class by rivals (#32).

GO UTES!!

You keep dodging the question by talking about the "good ol' days". The question is, do you honestly believe BYU can match Utah's "rebuilding" year ( 2009) next season??

RE:football43 | ( TDS troll)

It’s just a little bit easier to talk about the BCS when we’ve actually BEEN to multiple BCS games THIS DECADE and won them all. We speak from recent experience. I would assume most Kewgar fans posting on these articles where not even born the last time BYU had anything of national significance to be proud about.

re: UtesBy5

Just curious. How many of those 9 consecutive bowl winning Utah teams were good enough to finish in the Top 25?

Having mediocre regular seasons, regularly losing conference games, and then beating mediocre teams in bowls obviously doesn't impress the poll voters that much, does it?

re: hedgehog

lol at your "good ol' days" hedgehog.
Since when is 2007 considered the "good ol' days"?

It really doesn't matter what I think will happen this year does it?

Actual results are the only thing that really counts.

In what Utah fans would consider BYU's last "rebuilding" year, 2007,

replacing John Beck, Jonny Harline, and Curtis Brown

with Max Hall, Dennis Pitta, and Harvey Unga

the Cougars far exceeded what Utah did in 2009.

BYU 2007 11-2, undefeated MWC championship, #14/#15, beat Utah

Utah 2009 10-3, MWC 3rd place, #18/#18, lost to BYU

TrueBlue

BYU 1996 14-1 #5/#5 Cotton Bowl Champions

BYU's bowl opponent finished, Kansas State, was 9-2 and ranked #14. The Wildcats finished #17 in both polls with a 9-3 record.

BYU played THREE ranked opponents in 1996:
at #16/#15 Washington (9-3) 17-29
Wyoming #22/#22 (10-2) 28-25 (WAC championship)
Kansas State #17/#17 (9-3) 19-15 (Cotton Bowl)

and BYU beat Utah at Utah (8-4) 37-17

It's easily argueable that BYU played FOUR opponents in 1996 who were superior to anybody Utah played in 2004.

Utah 2004 12-0 #4/#5 Fiesta Bowl Champions

the only ranked opponent Utah played in 2004 was Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh #25/UR (8-4) 35-7 (Fiesta Bowl)

and Utah beat BYU (5-6) at home 52-21

In many ways, what BYU accomplished in 1996, FAR EXCEEDS what Utah accomplished in 2004.

BYU did have one loss, on the road to a Top 15 team. BUT the Cougars also had two wins against ranked opponents.

Had the BCS been in place, with the exact same rules that now exist for qualifying, BYU would have been a lock for a BCS bowl.

"I'm 100% certain that Utah to the Pac-10 is a done deal."

Cougars will keep living in the past, while Utah moves on to bigger and better things.

Just the facts folks.
