With a real investment in a quality pen for chickens, they have been some of my best pets ever! Once they find out the snails are tasty, no more poison. We fed them all of the non-meat table scraps, and always had too many eggs. The hardest part was getting too many - I never liked culling the flock. Some of the smarter hens have personality galore. The roosters are another story. The last mean one ran into a broom handle - not too mean after that...
