New Comment screens - sweet. I not worried about BYU's defensive line. Not only are they going to be good this season, within 2 seasons they will be the better than ever.

Really the only possession that worries is the free safety. Johnson was so important to the defense last season (the one game he missed, was against Florida State - the only game BYU lost because of defense)

TrueBlue

BYU's defense is going to have to mature in a hurry with a tough home opener against one of the better quarterbacks in the country, Jake Locker.

Washington, at Air Force, at Florida State to open the season; not an easy schedule even for an experienced defense.

Sound be good stuff this year!

Fiddler

Nice, no more Utah fans saying, "we beat you in bball by 40 tonight, mark it down. Emery cries and Rose's cancer comes back. Mark it all down."

Thanks desnews for adding a little accountibility. Also, I'm sure most Ute fans won't be able to figure out how to sign up so that takes care of that.

manicblue

D-line should be excellent this year with 4 returning players with experience and top rated recruits to give some depth.

CougarNut2010

so...what qualifies as excessive capital letters?

Fiddler

LOL, look at how obsessed Utah fans are with BYU. When we were once getting comments in the 100s about BYU articles, we now can't even break into double digits. Look at the bright side Utes, you can now focus on your #1 reason for being on the internet in the first place.

SD Blue

Sweet, I really like this new comment section. Some accountability...finally.

Anyway, I think the new d-line will be just fine. I am more excited for this year than I was at all for the last three years. I know we lost a lot of experience, but having new guys should be fun to watch even with a mediocre home stand.

SportsFan

to Fiddler: Look who's obsessed. Two comments; both about the Utes. Now that we have some level of accountability, maybe we could add a little maturity also.

Tough early tests, but I think this year's BYU defense is going to be very good

Osgrath

Don't get your hopes up too much, guys. The Tribune has required registration for years, and you get a whole lot more garbage over there than we ever find at the DN. People will spout of and become obnoxious regardless of the "safeguards" the site might erect.

Idaho Coug

The nice thing about this new comment section is that you get a general feel for each commenter by screen name. Yes, the Trib still has some obnoxious comments but you tend to know who is who and what to expect by screen name a bit more if you read consistently.

I like the athleticism and speed of this season's defense but we have a very tough schedule for a pretty inexperienced squad.

Matt Putman is going to develop into a beast this year. He is a lot like Jorgenson and Poppinga from a few years ago.

E. Klinche

I hope that Soo'to stays healthy and the D-line fills in well and deep. We need to sack the Seminole QB whomever he is.

Go Cougs! Get Locker! Go BCS bowling!

RE: Osgrath
That's true, but at least people like Wee Willy/Dwiggly/Moniker-of-the-day will have to commit to a consistent screen name, which means we'll more easily be able to skip his (or her) comments.

Big_Ben

I agree with an above comment. Johnson was a vocal leader. That will be missed. I think the BYU d will be pretty good. They always play with passion, that is for sure.

worf

The line will be just fine. It may take a few games to break-in.

MissouriCoug

Fall ball can't get hear soon enough! It will be fun and probably easier to assess the team after ALL the pieces are in place. Go Cougs!
